A dacryolith was discovered in the lacrimal sac during a dacryocystorhinostomy for chronic dacryocystitis in which there was mucocele formation. Morphological examination confirmed the presence of an eyelash at the centre of the stone and electron microscopy demonstrated the presence of fungi (Candida sp.) in a matrix which was of markedly vairable morphology. The mechanism by which a hair ente...
Most of the workers have reported a very good success rate of dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) operation. We have discussed the technique of re-operation in patients with previously unsuccessful DCR in our prospective study where 39 cases of failed DCR were operated. We have also determined the factors responsible for the failure of primary DCR and present the results of the management of failed cas...
purpose: to compare success rates of external dacryocystorhinostomy (dcr) with and without bicanalicular silicone intubation for management of primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction. methods: in a randomized clinical trial study, 52 patients with primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction underwent external dcr. patients were randomly enrolled into two groups. in the 1st group, exte...
A featured malignant-like granulation tissue can be the only preoperative clinical clue of a concealed foreign body in the nasal cavity. Thus, endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) should be completed with intraoperative nasal exploration to reveal non-apparent foreign bodies that might be the underlying etiology of chronic dacryocystocele.
Aim: The aim of the study is to visualize the patency and measure the ostium size at the end of Endonasal DCR with mitomycin C (MMC) versus control and to assess the role of Mitomycin C in maintaining patency of nasolacrimal drainage system. Design: Prospective randomized controlled study Participants: Sixty patients who consented for this study was subjected to endonasal DCR and randomised int...
We report a case of naso-cutaneous fistula due to thermal injury during transcanalicular laser dacryocystorhinostomy followed by superadded infection with coagulase negative staphylococcus in a diabetic patient. The case highlights the importance of meticulous wound care in the management and possibility of its occurrence even with minor thermal injury in immunocompromised patients.
Advances in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery continue to be made in the state of Hawaii. A new technique of dacryocystorhinostomy using the endoscope and the pulsed Holmium: YAG laser as well as a subconjunctival endoscopic assisted approach to orbital surgery for orbital decompression is described. The integrated hydroxyapatite implant replacing the enucleated eye gives excellent ...
