A highly regioselective ruthenium-catalyzed ortho-arylation of substituted N-alkyl benzamides with aromatic boronic acids in the presence of [{RuCl(2)(p-cymene)}(2)], AgSbF(6), and Ag(2)O is described. The synthesis and characterization of cationic ruthenium(II) complexes of the type [Ru(η(6)-p-cym)Cl{Ph(2)P(CH(2))(n)S(O)(x)Ph-κP,κS}][PF(6)] (n = 1-3; x = 0, 1; p-cym = p-cymene) are presented. Furthermore, their high biological potential even against cisplatin-resistant tumor cell lines and their structure-activity relationships are discussed.
