We update a unified chargino-neutralino trilepton search using 3.2 fb −1 of data gathered with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron. This search defines exclusive trilepton channels of generalized lepton types to increase sensitivity. We expect the trilepton categories to produce 1.47 ± 0.21 background events and observe one event. In categories with a track object we predict 9.38 ± 1.44 backgro...
During the Workshop Alexander Varfolomeev pointed out that light-by-light scattering at optical frequencies can be enhanced by use of a third laser beam [1]. Norman Kroll remarked that he had also considered this in the 60's [2]. Here we consider whether a 1-teraWatt laser, such as that built at U. Rochester for SLAC E-144 [3], could be used to perform such an experiment, and conclude that rate...
Results are reported on recent measurements of the cross section of the diffractive deep-inelastic process ep → eX p using different experimental methods. The longitudinal contribution to the diffractive cross section is shown for the first time.
I present a calculation of threshold soft-gluon corrections to single top quark production in pp̄ collisions via all partonic processes in the t and s channels and via associated top quark and W boson production. The soft-gluon corrections are formally resummed to all orders, and finite-order expansions of the resummed cross section are calculated through next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N...
We assess the theoretical uncertainties on the total charm cross section. We discuss the importance of the quark mass, the scale choice and the parton densities on the estimate of the uncertainty. We conclude that due to the small charm quark mass, which amplifies the effect of varying the other parameters in the calculation, the uncertainty on the total charm cross section is difficult to
We present results for top quark production at the Tevatron including next-to-nextto-leading order (NNLO) soft-gluon corrections. We show the stability of the cross section with respect to kinematics choice and scale when the NNLO corrections are taken into account. Presented at the HEP2003 Europhysics Conference, Aachen, Germany, 17-23 July, 2003.
The propagator in the instanton background in the (−λφ4) scalar model in four dimensions is studied. Leading and sub-leading terms of its asymptotics for large momenta and its on-shell double residue are calculated. These results are applied to the analysis of the initial state and initial-final state corrections and the calculation of the next-to-leading (propagator) correction to the exponent...
We present first steps toward understanding the ultracold scattering properties of polar molecules in strong electric field-seeking states. We have found that the elastic cross section displays a quasiregular set of potential resonances as a function of the electric field, which potentially offers intimate details about the intermolecular interaction. We illustrate these resonances in a “toy” m...
We present in detail the calculation of the O(α 3 s) inclusive total cross section for the process pp → tth in the Standard Model, at the Tevatron center-of-mass energy √ s H = 2 TeV. The next-to-leading order QCD corrections significantly reduce the renormalization and factorization scale dependence of the Born cross section. They slightly decrease or increase the Born cross section depending ...
