We propose a phenomenological study of the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) approach applied to the data on the proton structure function F2 measured at HERA in the small-xBj region (xBj < 0.01) and Q 2 in the range 5 to 120 GeV. With a simplified “effective kernel” approximation, we present a comparison between leading-logs (LO) and nextto-leading logs (NLO) BFKL approaches in the saddle-p...
We describe the determination of the strong coupling constant αs(M Z) and of the charm-quark mass mc(mc) in the MS-scheme, based on the QCD analysis of the unpolarized World deep-inelastic scattering data. At NNLO the values of αs(M Z) = 0.1134± 0.0011(exp) and mc(mc) = 1.24± 0.03(exp) +0.03 −0.02(scale) +0.00 −0.07(th) are obtained and are compared with other determinations, and also clarifyin...
We investigate the connection between the NSVZ and the DRED forms of the gauge β-function in an N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theory. We construct a coupling constant redefinition that relates the two forms up to four loops. By abelian calculations, we are able to infer the complete non-abelian form of β
In this talk we discuss string consistency requirements on four dimensional string models, namely the cancellation of target space duality anomalies. The analysis is explicitly performed for (hypothetical) orbifold models assuming the massless spectrum of the supersymmetric standard model. In addition, some phenomenological properties of fourdimensional strings, like the unification of the stan...
The results are presented of a study of the accuracy one may achieve at HERA in measuring the strong coupling constant αs and the gluon distribution xg(x,Q ) using future data of the structure function F2(x,Q ) which are estimated to be accurate at the few % level over the full accessible kinematic region down to x ≃ 10 and up to Q ≃ 50000 GeV. The analysis includes simulated proton and deutero...
This paper focuses on regular traveling waves, or waves that propagate smoothly, in a one-dimensional network of theta neurons. We show that when coupling strength is sufficiently large, there exist two traveling wave solutions for this network. Moreover, the cells in the network spike more than one time after joining the wave; that is, some form of synaptic depression or other adaptive mechani...
The properties of the new analytic running coupling are investigated at the higher loop levels. The expression for this invariant charge, independent of the normalization point, is obtained by invoking the asymptotic freedom condition. It is shown that at any loop level the relevant β function has the universal behaviors at small and large values of the invariant charge. Due to this feature the...
If for a given system two-dimensional (2D ) 119S n /!H heteronuclear shift correlations can be established for long range coupling constants "./(119Sn,'H ) (n = 4, 6), absolute signs of coupling constants /(Sn,Sn) are accessible by this technique for the first time. This has been demonstrated for tetrakis(trimethylstannyl)allene (1) with 2/ ( U9Sn, 117Sn) (>0) and 4/ ( n9Sn, 117Sn) (<0), and fo...
Single W and single gamma productions which are sensitive to the trilinear gauge coupling WWγ have been studied at LEP. It is shown that single W production has particular sensitivity to the 'anomalous' magnetic moment κγ of the W boson, complementary to WW production at LEP and Wγ production at hadron colliders. The invisible decay of W boson has been searched and the limit on the invisible de...
The gap parameter for color superconductivity is expected to be a gauge invariant quantity, at least on the appropriate mass shell. Computing the gap to subleading order in the QCD coupling constant, g, we show that the prefactor of the exponential in 1/g is gauge dependent off the mass shell, and independent of gauge on the mass shell.
