In the regime of weak bath coupling and low temperature we demonstrate numerically for the spin-boson dynamics the equivalence between two widely used but seemingly different roads of approximation, namely, the path-integral approach and the Bloch-Redfield theory. The excellent agreement between these two methods is corroborated by an efficient analytical high-frequency approach: it well approx...

We report here how artificial, thus erroneous, scaling laws of the dynamical magnetic susceptibility can be obtained when data are not treated carefully. We consider the example of the heavy-fermion system Ce0.925La0.075Ru2Si2 and we explain how different kinds of artificial scaling laws in E/T β can be plotted in a low temperature regime where the dynamical susceptibility is nearly temperature...

Recent neutron-scattering experiments on La2−xSrxCuO4 single crystals by Wakimoto et al. have revealed that elastic magnetic peaks appear at low temperatures in both insulating (x = 0.02 − 0.05) and superconducting (x = 0.06) samples. We have carried out further investigations particularly on the elastic incommensurate peaks for x = 0.06, and found that the integrated intensity drastically chan...

We investigate the transport properties of a correlated metal within dynamical mean-field theory. Canonical Fermi liquid behavior emerges only below a very low temperature scale T(FL). Surprisingly the quasiparticle scattering rate follows a quadratic temperature dependence up to much higher temperatures and crosses over to saturated behavior around a temperature scale T(sat). We identify these...

Small molecules that induce the formation of higher order DNA structures have potential therapeutic and nanotechnology applications. Screening of a click library has identified the first compound to induce the formation of a Holliday junction structure at room temperature without the need for a high temperature annealing step.

Dependence of the thermally assisted spin torque switching probability on the sweep electric current was investigated theoretically. The analytical expressions of the switching times for b = 1 and b = 2 are derived based on the rate equation, where b is the exponent of the current term in the switching rate. The switching current is approximately proportional to the temperature T and the logari...

The thermodynamic Bethe ansatz method is employed for the study of the integrable critical RSOS(q1, q2; q) model. The high and low temperature behavior are investigated, and the central charge of the effective conformal field theory is derived. The obtained central charge is expressed as the sum of the central charges of two generalized coset models.

We give a complete description of the set of periodic Gibbs states at low temperatures for classical spin systems with arbitrary ferromagnetic, finite-range, interactions and fairly general even single-spin distribution of compact support on R. This extends results of Holsztynski and Slawny for the spin-l /2 case. The extension is based on recent ferromagnetic inequalities and low-temperature e...

An increasing number of enzymes active at low temperature are being studied to help determine the structural features important for cold-activity. This review examines the diversity of prokaryotic cold-active enzymes and the features proposed to account for low temperature activity. We then consider the difficulty of identifying the key structural features needed for cold-activity and the need ...

We report results of nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations of a one-component glassy system under the influence of a shear flow, with the aim of investigating shear-induced ordering of this system. In spite of the very low temperature, the system transforms into a strained crystalline state through well defined nucleation events. Various characteristics of the observed ordering at diffe...
