OBJECTIVE The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of perforation edge approximation and direct application of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) each alone on the healing of large traumatic tympanic membrane perforations with inverted edges in humans. STUDY DESIGN Prospective, sequential allocation, three-armed, controlled clinical study. SETTING University-affiliated teaching...

the article “oral manifestation in transplant patients” was read with enthusiasm.[1] however, the following points may be noted worthy. fissured tongue, atrophy of tongue papillae, and angular cheilitis can be observed in liver transplant patients and these may be due to concurrent hyposalivation, due to intake of diuretic drugs such as thiazides and loop diuretics.[2,3] excessive bleeding with...

We consider the question of taking transitive closures on top of pure relational systems (Sybase and Ingres in this case). We developed three kinds of transitive closure programs , one using a stored procedure to simulate a built-in transitive closure operator, one using the C language embedded with SQL statements to simulate the iterated execution of the transitive closure operation, and one u...

After diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, femoral artery closure devices offer quicker time to hemostasis, ambulation, and discharge than does manual compression. Nurses should understand how femoral artery closure devices work, the potential vascular complications that may occur with their use, and the recommended time to ambulation and discharge.

The closure time of the ductus arteriosus was investigated in 29 full term babies born vaginally after induction with prostaglandin E2 and in 22 controls. Serial Doppler echocardiography studies showed a significantly prolonged closure time in babies induced by prostaglandin E2. Whether the difference is related to changes in fetal prostaglandin E2 concentration remains to be established.

Much work has been done on the problem of synthesizing a processor array from a system of recurrence equations. Some researchers limit communication to nearest neighbors in the array; others use broadcast. In many cases, neither of the above approaches result in an optimal execution time. In this paper a technique called bounded broadcast is explored whereby an element of a processor array can ...

We present an algorithm for solving the minimum-cut problem on closure graphs without maintaining flow values. The algorithm is based on an optimization algorithm for the open-pit mining problem that was presented in 1964 (and published in 1965) by Lerchs and Grossmann. The Lerchs–Grossmann algorithm (LG algorithm) solves the maximum closure which is equivalent to the minimum-cut problem. Yet, ...

Background Observational studies favor percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) over medical treatment to reduce recurrent stroke while randomized trials fail to demonstrate significant superiority of percutaneous PFO closure. Few long-term studies are available post PFO closure. This study reports long-term clinical outcomes after percutaneous PFO closure. Methods Between 1997 and ...

To catch or grasp an object, the initiation of hand closure has to be coordinated with the relative movement between hand and object. In search of a common control of the initiation of hand closure for both tasks (van de Kamp, Bongers, & Zaal, 2010), the authors studied two tasks, catching while keeping the hand stationary and prehension. They showed that the initiation of hand closure could we...
