background: amniotic fluid is an indicator of placental function on the fetal development. the amniotic fluid index is the most commonly used method of measuring amniotic fluid. objective: the purpose of this study was to compare the pregnancy outcomes of a borderline versus normal afi. materials and methods: this cross-sectional study was carried out on a total of 235 pregnant women referred t...

Objective: To evaluate amniotic fluid glucose, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-12 for diagnosing subclinical chorioamnionitis in women with preterm labor. Methods: Forty-four women in preterm labor at 22–35 weeks gestation with suspected subclinical chorioamnionitis underwent amniocentesis. Amniotic fluid analysis included Gram stain, culture, and determination of g...

The aim of the present study was to describe the differences in the cytological pattern of amniotic fluid at the moment of parturition, comparing the data from Nelore calves conceived by in vitro production, conventional embryo transfer, or artificial insemination. Sixty Nelore cows were divided in three groups as follows: Group 1, 20 pregnant cows carrying Nelore calves conceived by in vitro p...

background and objectives: preterm labor is a serious problem in obstetrics, accounting for 70% of perinatal mortality. high sensitive c - reactive protein (hs-crp) is a sensitive marker of inflammation. our aim in this study was to determine amniotic fluid hs-crp concentration and its correlation with pre-term delivery.   materials and methods: this prospective study was conducted on 90 pregna...

Magnetic resonance (MR) microscopy was used to noninvasively investigate the development of live rat embryos in utero. The difficulty in making sequential observations of a developing mammalian embryo has frustrated developmental biologists for many years. Most current technologies analyze normal and abnormal development by observing end point phenotypes (in fixed specimens) rather than investi...

BACKGROUND Intra-amniotic infection has long been recognized as the leading cause of preterm delivery. Microbial culture is the gold standard for the detection of intra-amniotic infection, but several days are required, and many bacterial species in the amniotic fluid are difficult to cultivate. METHODS We developed a novel nested-PCR-based assay for detecting Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma, other ba...

We investigated the susceptibility to Usutu virus (Flavivirus) of 13 permanent cell lines, 3 primary cell cultures, and chicken embryos. Vero, PK-15, and goose embryo fibroblast cells developed cytopathic effects; however, viral multiplication was detected in all mammalian cell types by immunohistochemical tests. Chicken embryo fibroblast cells and chicken embryos were resistant.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) concentrations in the early second-trimester amniotic fluid predict fetal growth at birth. HGF and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) concentrations in the early second-trimester amniotic fluid were measured in 12 pregnancies with small for gestational age (SGA) infants, 84 pregnancies with appropriate for gestat...
