Some new biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid 5-(arylidene)-2-(aryl)-4-oxothiazolidin-3-yl amides have been synthesized and evaluated for anti-inflammatory activity. Biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid hydrazide was converted to the corresponding aryl hydrazones using aryl aldehydes in the presence of catalytic amount of glacial acetic acid. The aryl hydrazones on reaction with thioglycolic acid in the presence o...

Abstract This invited Team Profile was created by Shuo Wang, Igor Larrosa, Hideki Yorimitsu and Greg Perry. They recently published an article on carboxylic acid salts as dual-function reagents for carboxylation carbon isotope labeling. project brought together researchers based in Japan the UK, demonstrates how scientists with different cultural backgrounds can work to build powerful results. ...

The stability of o-5,5-dimethyl-A’-thiazoline-4-carboxylic acid has been studied under various conditions. In 10 mu cacodylate, pH 6.5, and at 55”C, o-5,5-dimethyld’-thiazoline-4-carboxylic acid (at concentrations lower than 1 mu) is hydrolyzed into N-formyl-n-penicillamine with a half-life of 3 to 4 min. On this basis, it is very unlikely that D-5,5dimethyl-AZ-thiazoline-4-carboxylic acid coul...

Modifiers have a broad array of influences on extraction with liquids in standard state, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), trapping by SFE and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC). They can significantly change the qualitative and quantitative results. Quantitative and qualitative results can be influenced by different extractants and modifiers in different ways as it was shown by Brond...

This review examines the methods used to study carboxylic acids and the results of such studies on certain acids in freshwater snails. The three areas of carboxylic acid interest considered in this review involve their roles as metabolites, phagostimulants, and biomarkers. The chromatographic and non-chromatographic methods used to study the carboxylic acids in the snails are considered herein....

Although glutamic acid is known to be a precursor for proline biosynthesis, the enzymatic conversion of glutamic acid to pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid, the immediate precursor of proline, has not been demonstrated in cell-free systems. By providing appropriate concentrations of ATP and NADPH and blocking further metabolism of pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid, we have developed a method for measuring t...

Cellulolytic enzymes consist of a catalytic domain, a linking peptide, and a binding domain. The paper describes research on carboxylic acids that have potential as catalytic domains for constructing organic macromolecules for use in cellulose hydrolysis that mimic the action of enzymes. The tested domains consist of the series of mono-, di-, and tricarboxylic acids with a range of pK(a)'s. Thi...

Herein we report novel naphthalene homo-oligoamides, derived from 4-amino-3-methoxy-naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid and 4-amino-1-methoxy-naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid as monomer building blocks, that display an anti-periplanar arrangement of the naphthyl rings, primarily induced by steric interactions between adjacent groups and functionalities.

In a screening for antifungal metabolites, two indole compounds of mixed biogenesis, 1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid, 1-(1,1-dimethyl-2-propenyl) methyl ester and 1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid, 1-(2,3-dihydroxy-1,1-dimethylpropyl) methyl ester were isolated from a culture of the basidiomycete Aporpiums caryae. The structural elucidation of these compounds was accomplished by spectroscopic methods.

Nodulated soybean roots produced more ethylene and contained more 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid than uninoculated roots. Nodules produced more ethylene and contained more 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid per gram of material than roots. Almost all of the ethylene produced by the nodules was produced by the plant fractions of the nodules. Ethylene, at physiological concentrations, d...
