The membrane fusion reaction promoted by the paramyxovirus simian virus 5 (SV5) and human parainfluenza virus type 3 (HPIV-3) fusion (F) proteins and hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) proteins was characterized when the surface densities of F and HN were varied. Using a quantitative content mixing assay, it was found that the extent of SV5 F-mediated fusion was dependent on the surface density o...
In the past 4 years, incidences of endemic or epidemic respiratory diseases associated with canine influenza H3N2 virus in Asian dogs have been reported in countries such as South Korea and China. Canine species were considered to be the new natural hosts for this virus. However, at the beginning of 2010, influenza-like respiratory signs, such as dyspnoea, were also observed among cats as well ...
The main objective of this study was to estimate the seroprevalence of Bovine herpes virus type 1 and parainfluenza type 3 in a non-vaccinated population cattle in the livestock region of Qazvin province. Totally 504 sera were randomly collected and tested from 8 industrial dairy farms in Qazvin province during March 2010-March 2011. The result of one way analysis of variance was used for the a...
Infection of bovine embryonic lung cells with bovine parainfluenza virus type 3 did not induce in vitro, virus-specific, hemadsorption-related adherence of Corynebacterium pyogenes, Haemophilus somnus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus zooepidemicus, Pasteurella haemolytica, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Pasteurella multocida, Brucella sp., or Salmonella typhimurium.
Virotherapy using oncolytic vaccinia virus (VACV) strains is one promising new strategy for cancer therapy. We have previously reported that oncolytic vaccinia virus strains expressing an anti-VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) single-chain antibody (scAb) GLAF-1 exhibited significant therapeutic efficacy for treatment of human tumor xenografts. Here, we describe the use of oncolytic vac...
Canine viral eneritis is a frequent problem in clinical veterinary practice. From the discovery of canine parvovirus late 1970s to present day, viruses have been one most common causes diarrhea, especially younger categories dogs. The following primary dogs are often isolated: types 1 and 2, corona rota virus. Modern molecular methods diagnosis feces proven presence new viruses, which lead mild...
Little information on the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of human parainfluenza virus (HPIV) infections, especially in children from tropical countries, has been published. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of HPIV infections in children attended at a large hospital in Fortaleza in Northeast Brazil, and describe seasonal patterns, clinical and epidemiological chara...
A total of 1429 Saudi children of either sex and under 5 years of age who were admitted to King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh during a three year period (April 1993-March 1996) with complaints suggestive of acute respiratory tract infections (ARTI) were investigated for viral aetiology of the infection. Viruses could be detected in 522 (37 per cent) cases with respiratory syncytial virus (...
In California, molecular testing was useful in decreasing suspicion for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), by detecting common respiratory pathogens (influenza A/B, human metapneumovirus, picornavirus, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia spp., parainfluenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, and adenovirus) in 23 (45%) of 51 patients with suspected SARS and 9 (47%) of 19 patients with prob...
We have sequenced the parainfluenza virus 5 strain that persistently infects the commonly used AGS human cell line without causing cytopathology. This virus is most closely related to human strains, indicating that it may have originated from biopsy material or from laboratory contamination during generation of the cell line.
