The inclusion complexes of a new family of nonionic amphiphilic calix[4]arenes with the anti-inflammatory hydrophobic drugs naproxen (NAP) and ibuprofen (IBP) were investigated. The effects of the alkyl chain's length and the inner core of calix[4]arenes on the interaction of the two drugs with the calix[4]arenes were explored. The inclusion complexes of Amphiphiles 1a-c with NAP and IBP increa...

We present the synthesis and structure-activity relationships of sulfonatocalix[4]arene hosts bearing novel substitutions. The calix[4]arenes are modified on upper rim at either one or two phenolic units, where dual modifications introduced regioselectively neighbouring opposing phenols. mono- di-functionalised with nitro formyl groups, remaining upper-rim sites in all cases occupied by sulphon...

Numerous female reproductive abnormalities are consequences of disorders in uterus smooth muscle (myometrium) contractile function. In this work, we described activators of ATPase, which could be used for development of effective treatments for correcting this dysfunction. Myosin ATPase localized in the catalytic domain of myosin subfragment-1 transforms a chemical energy deposited in macroergi...

Phase-matching (w+ TM:“) devices for generation of blue light using Si [ 0] N and optically nonlinear c&x [ 4]arene layers are designed, fabricated and tested. The devices show second harmonic peak power of 17 mW at 472.9 nm and 4.5 W at 481.6 nm after IQ mm propagation length of a 1 mm broad beam using fundamental peak power of 200 W and 500 W, respectively. The strong requirements of noncriti...

The per-ipso-nitration of a TMPA-capped calix[6]arene has been achieved. The substitution of the six bulky tBu substituents for nitro groups has a strong impact on the behavior of the ligand during guest recognition. The complexation of the aza cap (by H(+) or Cu(+)) associated with the encapsulation of a guest triggers an induced-fit process leading to the loss of the cone conformation of the ...

A new working principle for detecting inorganic cation binding by water-soluble calix[4]arenes involves the displacement of a fluorescent azoalkane as guest. Fluorescence regeneration is observed for various metal ions, and binding of monovalent cations (alkali and ammonium) to p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene is detected and quantified for the first time.

p-tert-Butyltetrathiatetramercaptocalix[4]arene, [S(4)Calix(Bu(t))(SH)(4)], reacts with Mo(PMe(3))(6), W(PMe(3))(4)(eta(2)-CH(2)PMe(2))H and Ni(PMe(3))(4) to yield molybdenum, tungsten and nickel compounds in a sulfur-rich coordination environment.

A calix[6]arene capped by a tmpa unit provides Cu(ii) funnel complexes that, for the first time, accept not only neutral guest ligands but also anionic ones such as a hydroxide, which is due to a small conformational change in the calixarene cone.

1,3-Alternate calix[4]arene with para-phenylene spacers connecting nitroxide monoradicals and high-spin (S = 1) diradicals provides tetraradical and octaradical scaffolds that possess conformations with slow electron spin relaxation rates (1/T(1)). Such scaffolds may facilitate tuning of relaxation rates that are more favorable for MRI or DNP applications.

An amphiphilic calix[4]arene derivative bearing four guanidino moieties at the upper rim and four dodecyl chains at the lower rim was shown to form stable solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) in water. The study of the interactions of these cationic SLNs with DNA revealed a sequence-dependent groove binding mechanism.
