Magnusson, M. 2006. Evaluation of remote sensing techniques for estimation of forest variables at stand level. Doctor's dissertation. There is a continuous need for accurate forest description. Forest data at stand level is required in forestry planning, in particular when scheduling treatments within the next few years. Collection of forest data is typically acquired with subjective surveying ...

Knowledge of tree-crown parameters such as height, shape, and crown closure is desimble in forest and ecological studies, but those pammeters are difficult to measure on the ground. The stereoscopic capability of high-resolution aerial images provides a method for crown-surface reconstruction. However. 'existing digital photogrammet~packages, designed to map terrain surfaces. cannot accuratelv ...

Abstract We present geodetic mass-balance estimates for ten glaciers (22.6 ± 1.1 km 2 ) around Volcán Domuyo between 1962 and 2020 (and 46 covering 29 1.5 1984 2020), derived from airborne, ASTER Pléiades imagery. Overall, we find a slightly negative mass balance (−0.15 0.09 m w.e. –1 the entire 1962–2020 time span. A closer inspection of sub-periods reveals, however, an increasingly with time....

this study is an attempt at examining staged photography series “by an eye witness” by azadeh akhlaghi. in these photos, historical events were reconstructed by staged photography and a reflection of the photographer's attitude towards the moments of death, murder, and burial of the people who made turning points in the contemporary history of iran could be observed. in this series two typ...

Last decade saw a considerable growth in number of methods to create 3D models for buildings. Some companies have developed their own online maps systems. One of the most well-known of them is Google Maps. The maps are infrequently updated because the process is costly and labor-consuming, and, as a rule, the update is not necessary. The process of 3D model creation for a separate building usin...

[1] Coseismic deformation of the ground can be measured from aerial views taken before and after an earthquake. We chose the area of the Kickapoo-Landers step over along the 1992 Landers earthquake zone, using air photos (scale 1:40,000) scanned at 0.4 m resolution. Two photos acquired after the earthquake are used to assess the accuracy and to evaluate various sources of noise. Optical distort...

With the explosion in the number of images and videos on the Internet and ongoing amassing of huge volumes of visual data from digital cameras and mobile devices, we are unknowingly logging our own history. Consider that the number of digital cameras and camera phones in the world has surpassed one billion and that 500 billion consumer photos are taken each year. Given the world’s population of...

Large landslides, triggered by earthquakes or heavy rainfall, often obstruct the river’s flow to form landslide dams, causing upstream inundations, and downstream flooding. In Italy, landslide dams are rather widespread along in Alps and Apennines: although the identification of past events is a complex task, some hundreds of landslide dams are identified in the literature. In order to assess t...

Campania Region of Southern Italy has a complex environmental situation, due to geogenic and anthropogenic soil pollution. Some of the pollutants such as copper are mobilized in the organic matter. It has been shown that wetlands provide physical as well as biogeochemical barriers against pollutants. Therefore, the objective of this study was to introduce and test an innovative approach able to...

Optical remote sensing data have been considered to display signal saturation phenomena in regions of high aboveground biomass (AGB) and multi-storied forest canopies. However, some recent studies using texture indices derived from optical remote sensing data via the Fourier-based textural ordination (FOTO) approach have provided promising results without saturation problems for some tropical f...
