Bioimaging and therapeutic agents accumulated in ectopic tumors following intravenous administration of hybrid nanocrystals to tumor-bearing mice. Solid, nanosized paclitaxel crystals physically incorporated fluorescent molecules throughout the crystal lattice and retained fluorescent properties in the solid state. Hybrid nanocrystals were significantly localized in solid tumors and remained in...

Synthetic, spectroscopic, computational and biological imaging studies of platinum trimethyl bipyridyl thiolate complexes of the general formula [PtMe3(bpy)SR] reveal these to be easily accessed, tunable bioimaging agents which feature an unusual σ-π* Inter-Ligand Charge Transfer (ILCT) transition, and in some cases emit into the Near infra-red (NIR).

Understanding the structure of single neurons is critical for understanding how they function within neural circuits. BigNeuron is a new community effort that combines modern bioimaging informatics, recent leaps in labeling and microscopy, and the widely recognized need for openness and standardization to provide a community resource for automated reconstruction of dendritic and axonal morpholo...

Based on 6-hydroxyindole BODIPY with a Schiff-base structure, NIR fluorescence with impressively high selectivity is triggered by deprotonation of the phenol group upon binding with Zn(2+) due to the chelation-enhanced fluorescence effect, thus realizing a promising application in bioimaging of Zn(2+).

We report cadmium-free, biocompatible (Zn)CuInS(2) quantum dots with long fluorescence lifetimes as superior bioimaging probes using time-gated detection to suppress cell autofluorescence and improve the signal : background ratio by an order of magnitude. These results will be important for developing non-toxic fluorescence imaging probes for ultrasensitive biomedical diagnostics.

A Pd/Cu-catalyzed dehydrogenative Heck coupling is established that allows direct alkenylation of various biologically relevant N-heteroarenes with alkenes. The resulting π-extended alkenylated N-heteroarenes exhibit interesting fluorescent properties and have proven to be potentially useful fluorescent probes for bioimaging.

Here we report on the synthesis and averaged SERS measurements of multi-shell nanomatryoshka SERS tags. By tuning the number of shells or by changing the Raman reporters in different gap layers, their Raman intensities and spectral bands were tunable. These tags show great potential for SERS-based biosensing and bioimaging.
