The present study outlines an important area in the application of computer modelling to interface phenomena. Being relevant to the fundamental physical problem of competing atomic interactions in systems with reduced dimensionality, these phenomena attract special academic attention. On the other hand, from a technological point of view, detailed knowledge of the fine atomic structure of surfa...

a simple, sensitive and selective method for solvent extraction and spectrophotemetric determination of lanthanum (ii) europium (iii), and cerium (iii) is described , the rare earth metals are extracted into chloroform solution of n-phenylbenzohydroxamic acid (pbha) at ph 9-10 various parameters are studied to optimize the extraction conditions. the molar absorptivity is found to increase from ...

An inductively coupled plasma/selected-ion flow tube (ICP/SIFT) tandem mass spectrometer has been employed in a systematic survey of the room-temperature kinetics of reactions of NO with 13 atomic lanthanide cations from Ce+ to Lu+ (excluding Pm+). The atomic ions are produced at ca. 5500 K in an ICP source and are allowed to decay radiatively and to thermalize by collisions with Ar and He atom...

The combination of resonant laser ionization, nuclear spectroscopy and mass measurements allows the deconvolution of the low-energy structure of atomic nuclei. Three β-decaying isomers of Cu have been unambiguously identified with the Penning trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP. In addition, isomerically pure ensembles of the short-lived radionuclides Cu have been prepared.

Mass and charge identification of charged products detected with Silicon-CsI(Tl) telescopes of the Chimera apparatus is presented. An identification function, based on the Bethe-Bloch formula, is used to fit empirical correlation between ∆E and E ADC readings, in order to determine, event by event, the atomic and mass numbers of the detected charged reaction products prior to energy calibration.

A. Nanoparticles are very small (nearly atomic scale) with diameters less than 100 nm (<0.1 micron) in at least one dimension. Because of their small size, air sampling results indicating low mass concentrations actually contain greater numbers and larger surface area/unit mass of nanoparticles than for the same mass concentration of larger particles. Also, nanoparticles may be more biologicall...

We measure the molecular-to-atomic gas ratio, $R_{\rm mol}$, and star formation rate (SFR) per unit molecular mass, SFE$_{\rm in 38 nearby galaxies selected from Virgo Environment Traced CO (VERTICO) survey. determine their scale-lengths for stellar components find a roughly 3:5 ratio between them compared to $\sim$1:1 field galaxies, indicating that emission is more centrally concentrated than...

Protein identification is another area of bioinformatics where computational methods supplement experimental techniques to great effect. One useful experimental tool often used is mass spectrometry. Mass spectrometry is a general technique for deter mining atomic composition. We will study its use in identifying and analyzing the composition of proteins. In particular, we will see that reconst...

We quantify the limits on quark-antiquark mass differences imposed by the neutral kaon mass system. In particular, we find that an upper limit to the mass difference of 10 eV exists if mass differences across quark flavors are uncorrelated. We also find that such a small mass difference would be difficult to detect in upcoming antihydrogen experiments, both due to its small effect on the atomic...

The adsorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA), immunoglobulin G (IgG) and fibrinogen (Fgn) on fluorinated selfassembled monolayers have been studied using time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) and Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (SE). The objective of the work has to establish the utility of ToF-SIMS for the determination of the amount of protein adsorbed on the surface. Quantific...
