Abstract Background The study examined the effects of dietary supplementation Syzygium aromaticum leaf meal (SLM) on haematology, serum biochemistry and antioxidative status laying hens. Results A total 150 20-week-old Isa brown birds were randomly assigned to three experimental diets: Diet 1/control (no supplementation), 2 (0.25% SLM) 3 (0.50% SLM). Each diet was further divided into five (5) ...

Aspartate aminotransferase from Sulfolobus solfataricus (SsAspAT) is an extremely thermophilic and thermostable dimeric enzyme which retains its structure and reaches maximal activity at 100 degrees C. The structural stability of this protein was investigated by coupling isothermally and thermally induced denaturation studies to molecular modeling. Gel filtration analysis indicated that SsAspAT...

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a global that manifests in variety of forms, including alcoholic hepatitis, inflammation, fatty liver, and cirrhosis. One the early stages ALD (AFL) disease, which primarily characterized by accumulation lipids inflammation hepatocytes. Guanylate binding protein 5 (GBP5) has been investigated for its involvement progression. The regulatory effects GBP5 on progre...

The gene encoding aspartate aminotransferase of a thermophilic Bacillus species, YM-2, has been cloned and expressed efficiently in Escherichia coli. The primary structure of the enzyme was deduced from nucleotide sequences of the gene and confirmed mostly by amino acid sequences of tryptic peptides. The gene consists of 1,176 base pairs encoding a protein of 392 amino acid residues; the molecu...

A 43-year-old man was referred by his general practitioner to the hepatology clinic with deranged serum aminotransferases, discovered as part of routine blood tests. The objective was to identify the cause of elevated serum aminotransferases in this patient in a systematic manner. Thorough history and physical examination revealed a background history of rippling muscle disease secondary to cav...

Hepatic involvement in a lepromatous leprosy (LL) patient is reported. The serum concentrations of aminotransferases were much higher than previously described in the leprosy literature. Other causes for hepatic damage were ruled out. Such hepatic involvement and elevation of aminotransferases have never been described in leprosy.

BACKGROUND A hypothesis has been presented about the role of serum iron, ferritin and transferrin saturation among patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and resistance to insulin (metabolic syndrome [MetS]), but there is much controversy. This study aimed at investigating the level of serum iron and demographic characteristics in patients with NAFLD with or without MetS. METHO...
