Soluble polymer-supported convergent synthesis has for the first time been successfully exploited for parallel library synthesis; sub-libraries of tripeptide iodoarenes and arylboronic acids reacted smoothly in a multipolymer PdII-catalyzed Suzuki coupling reaction to generate a library of bisaryl-linked hexapeptides.

Transformation of aromatic thioesters into arylboronic esters was achieved efficiently using a rhodium catalyst. The broad functional-group tolerance and mild conditions of the method have allowed for the two-step decarboxylative borylation of a wide range of aromatic carboxylic acids, including commercially available drugs.

The coupling reaction of aryl iodides with arylboronic acids to give biaryl compounds can be efficiently performed without adding a transition metal catalyst. The key to success is the use of dimethyl carbonate as a solvent. This finding provides a new strategy for constructing a biaryl linkage.

[reaction: see text] A one-pot protocol for converting 1,3- and 1,4-substituted aryl halides to arylamine boronate esters is described. This is achieved by sequential Ir-catalyzed aromatic borylation at the least hindered C-H bond of the aryl halide and subsequent Pd-catalyzed C-N coupling at the halide position of the crude arylboronic ester.

Vinyl-substituted (Z)-stilbenes are stereoselectively synthesised on treatment of 4-arylbuta-2,3-dien-1-ols with arylboronic acids in the presence of a rhodium(i) catalyst. The reaction proceeds through the regioselective addition of organorhodium(i) species across the aryl-substituted carbon-carbon double bond of the allene moiety and subsequent delta-elimination of Rh(i)-OH.

A novel and efficient route to aryl N-aminosulfonamides via a palladium-catalyzed three-component coupling of arylboronic acids, sulfur dioxide and hydrazines in the presence of a balloon of dioxygen is reported. The reaction proceeded smoothly under mild conditions and DABCO·(SO(2))(2) was used as the source of sulfur dioxide.

The ligand-free trifluoromethylation of arylboronic acids with a [Ph(2)SCF(3)](+)[OTf](-)/Cu(0) system has been carefully investigated. Aryl-, alkenyl- and heteroarylboronic acids with a variety of functional groups were suitable substrates for this reaction. It is suggested that a CuCF(3) species is formed under the reaction conditions.
