We detected a cluster of dengue virus infections in children in Kenya during July 2014-June 2015. Most cases were serotype 1, but we detected all 4 serotypes, including co-infections with 2 serotypes. Our findings implicate dengue as a cause of febrile illness in this population and highlight a need for robust arbovirus surveillance.

The fossil record and systematics of phlebotomid sand flies, vectors of leishmaniasis and arbovirus in several regions of the world, strongly support that living genera existed long before the Oligocene (38 million years, myr). A common Phlebotominae ancestor was present in the Triassic period before the separations of continents (248 myr).

St. Louis encephalitis virus infection was detected in summer 2015 in southern California after an 11-year absence, concomitant with an Arizona outbreak. Sequence comparisons showed close identity of California and Arizona isolates with 2005 Argentine isolates, suggesting introduction from South America and underscoring the value of continued arbovirus surveillance.

Goose erythrocytes preserved with glutaraldehyde were compared with fresh cells in hemagglutination and hemagglutination-inhibition tests for arbovirus antigens and antibodies. The glutaraldehyde-fixed cells were as sensitive and specific as theresh erythrocytes and were stable at 4 degrees C for 6 months.

Human coronavirus strain 229E (HCoV-229E) and human alphaherpesvirus 1 were isolated from the plasma of a Haitian child in 2016 with suspected arbovirus diseases. To our knowledge, this is the first description of HCoV-229E in human plasma, which is the focus of this article.

The State of Iowa maintains a continuing surveillance program for the detection of arbovirus activity. Results of laboratory studies of avian, human, and mosquito specimens collected during the summer of 1977 are presented. Cache Valley, Flanders, trivittatus, Turlock, and western equine encephalomyelitis arboviruses were isolated from 73 of the 613 pools of mosquitoes examined. Avian blood spe...

We investigate how entanglement can be transferred between qubits and continuous-variable (CV) systems. We find that one ebit borne in maximally entangled qubits can be fully transferred to two CV systems which are initially prepared in a pure separable Gaussian field with high excitation. We show that it is possible to retrieve the entanglement back to qubits from the entangled CV systems. The...

Three group A arboviruses, Sindbis (SIN), western (WEE) and eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), were selectively degraded with a nonionic detergent to yield a core particle and a soluble envelope component. Antigenic analysis by using radioimmune precipitation techniques revealed marked antigenic similarity among the core particles of the three viruses. The soluble envelope component exhibited a...
