The aim of this work was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of Brazilian plants extracts against fish pathogenic bacteria. Forty six methanolic extracts were screened to identify their antibacterial properties against Streptococcus agalactiae, Flavobacterium columnare and Aeromonas hydrophila. Thirty one extracts showed antibacterial activity.

Decarboxylated ciprofloxacin (3) has been reported in the literature to have antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecalis, Bacillus subtilis, Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens and especially potent activity against Escherichia coli. Herein, we report our syntheses of 3 and five additional decarboxylated fluoroquinolones (FQs)....

The antibacterial activity of cefminox (CMNX) against anaerobic bacteria was studied in vitro. The results are as follows: 1. CMNX exerted antibacterial activity against a wide range of anaerobes, excluding Clostridium innocuum. The antibacterial activity of CMNX against Bacteroides fragilis was comparable to that of latamoxef and superior to cefoxitin, but CMNX's activity against anaerobic coc...

Topical antibacterial agents occupy an important niche of antimicrobial therapy for both inpatients and outpatients. These agents, including antiseptic and antibiotic preparations, are used for prophylaxis and treatment of infection. Prophylactic uses include application for traumatic and surgical wounds, burns, intravascular catheters, and eradication of S. aureus nasal carriage. Topical antib...

Uniform M3PMo12O40·nH2O (M = NH , K, Cs) rhombic dodecahedral nanocrystals are successfully obtained using mild hydrothermal conditions or room temperature chemical precipitation method for their self-organization. The reaction temperatures and times play important roles in the possible growth proceeding of these nanostructures. Interestingly, from antibacterial testing, the nanostructured prod...

The prokaryotic type II topoisomerases (DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV) and the eukaryotic type II topoisomerases represent the cellular targets for quinolone antibacterial and anticancer agents. Both enzymes effort the selectively shift from an antibacterial to an antitumor activity. In the search for potential molecule in the quinolones series, some of quinolone analogs displayed antibacteri...

Antibacterial bioceramics were successfully fabricated by adding 0.5 wt% silver to yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) and their surface antibacterial properties were investigated. Silver-containing YSZ bioceramics exhibited superior antibacterial rate against both Staphylococcus aureus (99.9%) and Escherichia coli cells (88.6%) compared with non-doped-YSZ. The antibacterial action of silver was s...

In order to extend the antibacterial time of quaternary phosphonium salt in bacteria, palygorskite (PGS) is used as the carrier of dodecyl triphenyl phosphonium bromide (DTP), and a DTP-PGS hybrid is prepared. Antibacterial performance of this novel hybrid is investigated for both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The results show that the DTP could be absorbed on the surface of PGS whi...
