Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are the most abundant form of genetic variation and are highly adaptable to large-scale automated genotyping and population genetics studies. For nonmodel organisms, many SNP discovery projects are based on sequencing and assembly of a transcriptome and the calling of sequence variation in contigs. This paper develops a new method for avoiding intron/exon ...
We describe the effect of gelatinous plankton – Aurelia aurita and invaders Mnemiopsis leidyi and Beroe ovata – on fish (eggs, larvae, feeding, and stocks) in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, based on field data and the relevant literature. Representatives of three ecological groups of fish were chosen as examples: planktivorous anchovy typical of warm-water conditions, planktivorous sprat of tem...
Whale sharks are known to feed primarily on zooplankton all over the world; however, recent findings suggest that they also prey fish using behaviors have not been fully described. Here, we provide detailed evidence of whale interacting with schools anchovy four occasions in Bahia de Los Angeles, Baja California, Mexico. Three these were predatory interactions multi-species feeding frenzies, an...
Environmental DNA (eDNA) has become a popular non-invasive method to study the presence of organisms in environment. To ecological behavior and migration routes small pelagic fishes that are difficult trace with traditional capturing methods, we developed multiplex real-time PCR assays measure eDNA chub mackerel, blue Japanese jack anchovy, sardine, Pacific saury. test validity, samples collect...
Abstract Anchovy is one of the economically important fish in western part northern coast Central Java. The production anchovies extends along from Brebes Regency to Batang Regency. Therefore, this study aims determine diversity on Java (Brebes, Tegal, Pemalang, Batang, and Kendal), using a molecular approach. This was conducted April September 2019 Laboratory Tropical Marine Biotechnology, Fac...

We isolated and characterized 14 polymorphic microsatellite loci in the Japanese anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) using a (GT)(13)-enriched genomic library. The numbers of alleles per locus ranged from 6 to 31, with a mean of 17.8. The observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.180 to 0.949 and from 0.172 to 0.966, with means of 0.731 and 0.825, respectively. All 14 loci were in Hardy-We...
