The hurricane remains one of the outstanding enigmas of fluid dynamics. This is so, in part, because the phenomenon is comparatively difficult to observe and because no laboratory analogue has been discovered. To this it must be added that hurricanes have received surprisingly little attention from the theoretically inclined fluid dynamicist, perhaps owing to an understandable tendency to avoid...

According to Hans Kamp and Frank Vlach, the two-dimensional tense operators “now” and “then” are ineliminable in quantified tense logic. This is often adduced as an argument against tense logic, and in favor of an extensional account that makes use of explicit quantification over times. The aim of this paper is to defend tense logic against this attack. It is shown that “now” and “then” are eli...

Extending formal verification methodology toward analog circuits is a very challenging task that will occupy researchers for some time. To put this challenge in context we sketch some of the history of digital circuit verification as well as more recent attempts to adapt it to continnuous and hybrid systems.

This work evaluates the ability of OBT for detecting parametric faults in continuous-time filters. To this end, we adopt two filters with quite different topologies as cases of study and a previously reported statistical fault model. In addition, we explore the behavior of the test schemes when a particular test condition is changed. The new data reported here, obtained from a fault simulation ...

This paper argues in favor of adaptive reconJiguration as a technique to expand the operational envelope of analog electronics for extreme environments (EE). On a reconfigurable device, although component parameters change in EE, as long as devices still operate, albeit degraded, a new circuit design, suitable for new parameter values, may be mapped into the reconJigurable structure to recover ...

This paper presents an approach to modelling distributed systems described by Partial Differential Equations(PDEs) in SystemC-A. Such modeling approach is quite important because of the modeling difficulties for the mixedphysical domain systems where complex digital and analogue electronics interfaces with vital distributed physical effects. As current SystemC-A does not support PDEs modeling, ...

The presented tool “Plantage+” significantly speeds up the layout process of analog circuits. Integrated in an industrial IC design environment, the tool recognizes basic building blocks in the circuit. It automatically sets up constraints and generates layouts using a deterministic algorithm.

Three different but complementary approaches to higher-level specification of analog circuits are proposed as a set of extensions to SPICElike circuit simulators. They include table-driven, formuladriven and program-driven generalized characteristics of (nonlinear) circuit elements as well as whole “blocks”. Examples of SPICEPAC enhancements are used as an illustration of these approaches.

Proteomics has become a critical tool in the functional understanding of plant processes at the molecular level. Proteomics-based studies have also contributed to the ever-expanding array of data in modern biology, with many generating Web portals and online resources that contain incrementally expanding and updated information. Many of these resources reflect specialist research areas with sig...

This paper describes MultiMASC, which builds upon the Manually Annotated Sub-Corpus (MASC) (Ide et al., 2008; Ide et al., 2010) project, a community-based collaborative effort to create, annotate, and validate linguistic data and annotations on a broad-genre open language data. MultiMASC will extend MASC to include comparable corpora in other languages that not only represent the same genres an...
