Solutions of sodium salicylate in anhydrous polar solvents exhibit a weak, temperature-dependent absorption band (λmax ≈ 325 nm) lying in the Stokes gap between the main absorption (296 nm) and the fluorescence band (396 nm, acetonitrile). This weak, longer wavelength absorption band is hardly observable in aqueous solution, but its intensity increases with temperature and increases with polari...

The first examples of halogen bonding redox-active ferrocene receptors and their anion electrochemical sensing properties are reported. Halogen bonding was found to significantly amplify the magnitude of the receptor's metallocene redox-couple's voltammetric responses for halide sensing compared to their hydrogen bonding analogues in both acetonitrile and aqueous-acetonitrile solvent media.

An all-copper redox flow battery based on strong complexation of Cu(+) with acetonitrile is demonstrated, exhibiting reasonable battery performance. More interestingly, the battery can be charged by heat sources of 100 °C, by distilling off the acetonitrile. This destabilizes the Cu(+) complex, leading to recovery of the starting materials.

In this communication we show that the instability of samarium diiodide (SmI(2)) in acetonitrile is a consequence of ionization of the reductant in this solvent. Samarium triflate (Sm(OTf)(2)) is exceptionally stable in acetonitrile for periods over six months and can be used with appropriate additives to initiate a ketyl-olefin coupling reaction in high yield.

Background & Aims: In recent decades, the application of tetrazole structures in various fields of medicine and industry has become very important, because they can cause structural and thus functional changes in the proteins. In this article, the effect of a new tetrazole derivative on calf thymus DNA (Ct-DNA) as well as on bovine serum albumin protein (BSA) in the solution was determined usin...

For the first time, it is demonstrated that exposure of an enzyme to anhydrous organic solvents at optimized high temperature enhances its catalytic power through local changes at the binding region. Six enzymes, namely, proteinase K, wheat germ acid phosphatase, alpha-amylase, beta-glucosidase, chymotrypsin and trypsin were exposed to acetonitrile at 70 degrees C for three hr. The activities o...

A simple photometric procedure was developed for the determination of thiocyanate (SCN-) in plasma and saliva without deproteinisation or dialysis. Fe(III) ions form a red coloured complex with SCN- with a maximum absorbance at 460 nm. Mercury(II) nitrate is used to run a sample blank. A manual and an automated version (COBAS BIO) of the method is described. The method is linear up to 5000 mumo...

Objective: The objective of the present study is to establish a simple, sensitive, and specific RP-HPLC technique determine atorvastatin calcium (ATV) atenolol (ATL) in rabbit plasma.
Methods: Both drugs like have been extracted by simple liquid-liquid extraction with acetonitrile.
Results: chromatographic separation has performed on reversed-phase C18 column mobile phase phosphate ...
