Abstract Introduction Transthyretin (TTR) is a homotetrameric 55-KDa plasma protein that transports thyroxin and retinol complexed to retinol-binding (RBP). TTR misfolding aggregation can lead the extracellular deposition of amyloid (ATTR) representing one most frequent forms amyloidosis in elderly. Aim this study develop native electrophoretic method characterize circulating samples ATTR patie...

Dynamic urea bond-mediated polymerization (DUBMP) has been employed for the synthesis of linear, branched, telechelic, and random-block polyurethanes (PUs) with low molar-mass dispersity relative to conventionally synthesized PUs (Đ < 1.5). However, reason improved control molar mass reduction in dispersity, promoted by DUBMP, not explained. In this paper, DUBMP linear PU based on low-molar-mas...

Sucrose nonfermenting-1 (SNF1)-related protein kinases (SnRKs) form a major family of signalling proteins in plants and have been associated with metabolic regulation and stress responses. They comprise three subfamilies: SnRK1, SnRK2, and SnRK3. SnRK1 plays a major role in the regulation of carbon metabolism and energy status, while SnRKs 2 and 3 have been implicated in stress and abscisic aci...

An NADH oxidase from the anaerobic hyperthermophilic bacterium Thermotoga maritima was purified. The enzyme was very active in catalyzing the reduction of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide with an optimal pH value of 7 at 80 degrees C. The V(max) was 230 +/- 14 mumol/min/mg (k(cat)/K(m) = 548,000 min(-1) mM(-1)), and the K(m) values for NADH and oxygen were 42 +/- 3 and 43 +/- 4 muM, respectively. Th...

Experiments were performed to evaluate the hypothesis that the early stage of Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) increases renal angiotensin II (AngII) concentration and angiotensin type 1 (AT) receptor protein levels. Nineteen or twenty days after vehicle (Sham rats) or streptozotocin (STZ rats) treatment, plasma [AngII] was higher in STZ rats (152 +/- 23 fmol/ml) than in Sham rats (101 +/- 7 fmol/...

The serologic diagnosis of hydatidosis (caused by Echinococcus granulosus) can be made by different techniques, although the lack of standardization of the antigens affects the sensitivity, specificity and concordance among the different tests. We have applied the Western-Blot (WB) technique, associated with a purified antigen from sheep hydatid fluid, at 60 samples of serum from 14 patients su...

Cellular proteins are extensively degraded during leaf senescence, and this correlates with an up-regulation of protease gene expression, particularly cysteine proteases. The objectives of this work were (i) to detect cysteine proteases associated with senescence of wheat leaves under different conditions and (ii) to find out their subcellular location. Activity labelling of cysteine proteases ...

The O-linked oligosaccharides (O-glycans) in mammalian glycoproteins are classified according to their core structures. Among the most common is the core 1 disaccharide structure consisting of Gal 133GalNAc 13Ser/ Thr, which is also the precursor for many extended Oglycan structures. The key enzyme for biosynthesis of core 1 O-glycan from the precursor GalNAc-Ser/Thr is UDP-Gal:GalNAc-Ser/Thr 3...

The initial step in mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) RNA replication is the synthesis of negative-strand RNA from a positive-strand genomic RNA template. Our approach to begin studying MHV RNA replication is to identify the cis-acting signals for RNA synthesis and the proteins which recognize these signals at the 3' end of genomic RNA of MHV. To determine whether host cellular and/or viral proteins ...
