We report a rare case of mycotic pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm (PAP) secondary to a lung abscess due to Streptococcus constellatus. PAP was confirmed by the pathological findings of the pseudoaneurysm, the presence of bacteria, and the microbiological analysis. PAP is uncommon, but it is important to recognize this condition because PAP can lead to fatal hemoptysis.
Thiamine monophosphatase (TMPase, also known as fluoride-resistant acid phosphatase) is a classic histochemical marker of small-diameter dorsal root ganglia neurons. The molecular identity of TMPase is currently unknown. We found that TMPase is identical to the transmembrane isoform of prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), an enzyme with unknown molecular and physiological functions. We then found ...
BACKGROUND Many pediatric patients need positive airway pressure (PAP) for treatment of obstructive sleep-disordered breathing. Adherence to PAP (defined as percent of nights with PAP use of > 4 h) is often poor and not sustained long-term. With any chronic disease, education has been shown to help with patient outcomes. Education of patients and parents regarding PAP can be provided by differe...
BACKGROUND To assess the possibility of hepatocarcinoma-intestine-pancreas/pancreatitis-associated protein (HIP/PAP) as a biological marker for detecting Bladder cancer (BCa), we examined the expression of HIP/PAP in both BCa specimens and BCa cell lines and measured HIP/PAP levels in urine from patients with BCa. METHODS HIP/PAP expression in BCa samples was evaluated by western blot analysi...
This study was performed to evaluate the importance of obtaining postpartum Papanicolaou (Pap) smears routinely. Four hundred eighty-nine patients receiving pregnancy care had a normal prenatal Pap smear and a repeat Pap smear at their postpartum visit. Twenty-four (4.9 percent) had an abnormal postpartum Pap smear (95 percent confidence interval: 3.1-6.9 percent). Twenty-one (87.5 percent) of ...
background : cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the world and the most common cancer in developing countries. pap smear is and effective tool that can prevent death due to cervical cancer . the aim of this study was to determine the factors related to doing regular pap-smear test based on the theory of planned behavior . methods : in this cross-sectional study, cond...
Abstract Background and Objective: Much research has shown that Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) plays an important role in cervix cancer and it is the cause of 99% of cervix cancer worldwide. Lots of research has been done to find a proper method for HPV diagnosis and screening in patients with genital warts. This study aimed at comparing PCR method with Pap smear test in HPV screening. Materi...
Variations in phosphatidate phosphohydrolase (PAP) activity and triacylglycerol concentration were measured in pregnant and hormone-treated non-pregnant female rats. PAP activity in adipose tissue was elevated by 61% during pregnancy. The increase in the enzyme activity was paralleled with a rise in serum triacylglycerol concentration (44%). Estradiol injecting into non-pregnant rats increased ...
