Theoretical calculations suggest a novel two-electron three-atom bonding scheme for complexation of O 2 with U(V) compounds, leading to the stabilization of superoxo complexes in the side-on (eta (2)) configuration. This binding motif is likely to play an important role in the oxidative processes involving trans-uranium compounds having valence 5f phi electrons.

We study the problem of finding all integer solutions of the Diophantine equations x2 − 5Fnxy − 5 (−1) y2 = ±Ln, x2 − Lnxy + (−1) y2 = ±5F 2 n , and x2 − Lnxy + (−1) y2 = ±F 2 n . Using these equations, we also explore all integer solutions of some other Diophantine equations.

Positive muon spin relaxation measurements performed on the ferromagnet UGe2 reveal, in addition to the well-known localized 5f-electron density responsible for the bulk magnetic properties, the existence of itinerant quasistatic magnetic correlations. Their critical dynamics is well described by the conventional dipolar Heisenberg model. These correlations involve small magnetic moments.

The gene encoding alpha fetoprotein (locus symbol Afp) was assigned to rat chromosome 14 at band p21-p22 using fluorescence in situ hybridization method. The present result suggests that there is a conserved syntenic group between human 4q11-q13, mouse 5F-G, and rat 14p21-p22.

Chiral enamides 5f-i were found to react with pyrylium ylides to give cycloadducts 6d-i in good yields with an excellent level of stereoselectivity. The chiral auxiliary was successfully removed on hydrogenolysis of compound 6f in continuous flow (H-Cube) resulting in the first asymmetric synthesis of complex amine 8.
