A simple, sensitive gold nanoparticle (GNP)-based dot-blot immunoassay has been developed for detecting Alzheimer's disease related β-amyloid peptide 1-42 (Aβ(1-42)) down to a 50 pg mL(-1) level in aqueous solution. Practical samples (cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), cell culturing mediums and cell lysates) have been used to demonstrate the ability of the assay.
Context Barley can be included in poultry diets as a cost-effective energy-contributing ingredient. However, its inclusion meat chicken is limited because it considered viscous grain due to high crude fibre and soluble non-starch polysaccharide contents. Aims The study quantified the optimum rate of barley during different growing phases, using an incremental program. Methods Eight dietary trea...
Background: Changes in β-amyloids (Aβ) and tau proteins have been noted in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and patients with both Down syndrome (DS) and AD. However, reports of changes in the early stage of regression, such as behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), in DS are sparse. Methods: Seventy-eight controls, 62 patients with AD, 35 with DS and 16 with DS with de...
Psychosis is reported over 30% of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) in clinics. Aripiprazole is an atypical antipsychotic drug with partial agonist activity at the D2 dopamine and 5-HT1A receptors with low side-effect profile. We identified aripiprazole is able to overcome the amyloid-β (Aβ)-evoked neurotoxicity and then increase the cell viability. This study elucidated the mechanism(s) b...
The crystal structure of β-cyclo-dextrin, C(42)H(70)O(35)·10.41H(2)O, consists of truncated cone-shaped β-cyclo-dextrin mol-ecules that are herringbone packed. The primary hydr-oxy groups form an intra-molecular hydrogen-bonded array. The semipolar cavity of the cyclo-dextrin host is filled with water mol-ecules, which show partial occupancy and disorder.
The aggregation of the amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide into fibrillar deposits has long been considered the key neuropathological hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Aβ peptides are generated from proteolytic processing of the transmembrane Aβ precursor protein (AβPP) via sequential proteolysis through the β-secretase activity of β-site AβPP-cleaving enzyme (BACE1) and by the intramembranous enzyme γ-...
Alzheimer's disease, one of the neurodegenerative diseases, shows the progressive senescence of neural progenitor/stem cells. N-Stearoyl-L-tyrosine (NsTyr) showed neuroprotective effect against chronic brain ischemia in previous reports. In the present study, we find the antisenescent effects of NsTyr-2K in NSPCs induced by Aβ 1-42 in vitro. Cell viability of NSPCs was evaluated by CCK8 assay; ...
Antecedentes.
The aggregation and deposition of amyloid-β((1-42) )(Aβ(42)) in the brain is implicated in the aetiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD). While the mechanism underlying its deposition in vivo is unknown its precipitation in vitro is influenced by metal ions. For example, Aβ(42) is known to bind copper, Cu(II), in vitro and binding results in aggregation of the peptide. The biophysical properties of...
