The Orthobunyavirus genus of Bunyaviridae is a divergent group of medically important pathogens. Abbey Lake bunyavirus (Ab-BUNV) was newly isolated and identified in Xinjiang Province, northwestern China. The complete genome of Ab-BUNV was sequenced and is reported here, revealing that Ab-BUNV may represent a novel genotype in the genus Orthobunyavirus.

Nineteen species of seed-beetles belonging to the subfamily Bruchinae (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) were collected in Xinjiang, China. Of these, the following four were new records for China: Bruchusaffinis Frolich, 1799, Bruchusatomarius L., 1761, Bruchusloti Paykull, 1800 and Kytorhinuskergoati Delobel & Legalov, 2009. In 2006, Tahyna virus was isolated from Culex spp. mosquitoes collected in Xinjiang, People's Republic of China. In 2007, to determine whether this virus was infecting humans, we tested serum from febrile patients. We found immunoglobulin (Ig) M and IgG against the virus, which suggests human infection in this region.
