This paper studies the variation of the volume of a subanalytic family of sets. More precisely we are interested in the variation of the density. We prove that the density is continuous along a stratum of a Whitney subanalytic stratification and locally lipschitzian when the stratification satisfies the Kuo-Verdier condition. This problem had been studied by Comte in [C].

Low order Whitney elements are widely used for electromagnetic field problems. Higher order approximations are receiving increasing interest but their definition remains unduly complex. In this paper we propose a new simple construction for Whitney p-elements of polynomial degree higher than one that use only degrees of freedom associated to p-chains. We provide a basis for these elements on si...

I’ll give an outline of the theory of Whitney algebras of a matroid, with the notions of geometric product and the excahnge relations, I’ll give the letterplace superalgebra coding of these algebras, and I’ll show how this coding allows to get the exchange relations directly from the superstraightening laws. I’ll not speak about the Lax Hopf algebra structure of Whitney algebras. All this is pa...

Classical approaches for analyzing reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) data commonly require normalization before assessing differential expression (DE). Normalization often has a substantial effect on the interpretation and validity of the subsequent analysis steps, but at the same time it causes a reduction in variance and introduces dependence among the nor...

Most conventional statistical tests for analyzing RT-qPCR data require normalization before differential expression can be assessed. This normalization can have a substantial effect on the interpretation and validity of the statistical test, but this effect is often ignored. Therefore the uWMW test, as proposed in [1], extends the Wilcoxon–Mann–Whitney test so that the normalization is incorpor...

MOTIVATION Recently, De Neve et al. proposed a modification of the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney (WMW) test for assessing differential expression based on RT-qPCR data. Their test, referred to as the unified WMW (uWMW) test, incorporates a robust and intuitive normalization and quantifies the probability that the expression from one treatment group exceeds the expression from another treatment group. H...

An accurate and early diagnosis of the Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is of fundamental importance for the development of effective treatments to palliate the effects of the disease. Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) allows physicians to detect early stages of the disease, and functional brain images have been proved to be very useful in this task. This paper presents a new CAD system that consists of t...

Over a quarter-century ago, Alan Agresti (Biometrics, 1980) proposed using the generalized odds ratio (genOR) to summarize the association between two ordinal variables. Unfortunately, genOR is still largely unknown, even though it is elegantly straightforward and fills key voids in the working statistician’s toolbox. An extension of it, a statistic we are calling “WMWodds,” is an ideal effect-...
