Usually, dry soil readily absorbs water .However, not all soils display such characteristics. Some soils (hydrophobic soils) show resistance to wetting. Because of the importance of this subject and lack of research, we evaluated the effect of heating on water repellency and some of soil physical and chemical characteristics. So soil was combined with compost and heated at deferent temperatures...

Hardsetting phenomenon is an indicator of poor soil physical quality. Hardsetting soils are soils with high rate of mechanical strength increase upon drying and are hardened and/or compacted when dry out. It is difficult to till such soils. Hardsetting soils have additional limitations such as poor aeration at wet conditions, low infiltrability and high runoff and erosion. Most of Iran soils ha...

When sewage sludge is applied to arable land, linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) is released into the environment. In soils, LAS has been shown to impede microbial processes, such as bacterial iron reduction. The aim of the present study was to quantify LAS adsorption and desorption to agricultural soils and iron oxides and relate this to the inhibition of microbial iron reduction. Two agricul...

Copper is an essential micronutrient for plant growth which is involved in many metabolic processes. However excessive amounts of copper may cause environmental pollution. With an increase in the contamination of urban areas with heavy metals, more attention should be paid to the role of ornamental plants in removing pollutants from the soils. The effects of heavy metals on the growth parameter...

In a greenhouse research, the effects of soil water conditions, sewage sludge and chemical fertilizers on growth characteristics and water use efficiency of rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Ali Kazemi) were studied in a loamy sand alkaline non-calcareous soil. The study was performed as a factorial experiment in a randomized complete blocks design including soil water conditions in three levels (conti...

pepino (solanum muricatum), a new vegetable crops, is from solanaceae family and cultivated as annual crops. in order to investigate the effects of mulch on weed dry weight in pepino and soil humidity and temperature, an experiment was conducted based on randomized completely design with three replication at the ferdowsi university of mashhad green house, during 2009. treatments included rice s...

Bioretention cells are incorporated as part of low impact development LID because of their ability to release influent runoff as exfiltration to the soil or evapotranspiration to the atmosphere. However, little care is taken as to the techniques used to excavate bioretention cells, and there is little concern as to the soil-moisture condition during excavation. Certain excavation techniques and...

much has been learned in recent years about the factors affecting reflection of sunlight by soils, the influence Knowledge of how surface roughness influences the reflectance of of w on albedo of rough soil surfaces is still poorly sunlight from cultivated soils is useful in various applications, such as estimating albedo values used as inputs to soil temperature models understood (Cresswell et...

This study investigates the role of soil moisture on the threshold runoff response in a small headwater catchment in the Italian Alps that is characterised by steep hillslopes and a distinct riparian zone. This study focuses on: (i) the threshold soil moisture-runoff relationship and the influence of catchment topography on this relation; (ii) the temporal dynamics of soil moisture, streamflow ...

Detection of viable Azotobacter in soils stored in the laboratory for more than 10 years suggests that these bacteria can remain dormant in nature for prolonged periods of time. Studies of dried cultures show that cysts of A. vinelandii 12837 remain viable for at least 10 years, whereas vegetative cells do not survive for even 1 year under the same conditions.
