We report a patient with vulvar lichen sclerosus, Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), and later vulvar cancer. In LCH, high amounts of non functional Langerhans cells are present in the affected tissue, making it possible that LCH may have contributed to vulvar cancer development in this patient.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the CT features of pathologically proven low grade serous carcinoma (LGSC) of the ovary. METHODS Patients with a pathologic diagnosis of LGSC and CT prior to oophorectomy were retrospectively identified. The CT scans in 14 patients were available and were analyzed for an adnexal mass, peritoneal mass and ascites. The adnexal mass was characterized as complex primarily cy...
Objective: Laparoscopic oophoropexy is performed by a minimally invasive technique that can be offered to any age premenopausal women with an appropriate indication. Adnexal torsion is an uncommon but important cause of emergency admission to the gynaecologist. Torsion of the adnexa has traditionally been treated by involved surgical excision of the affected structure, usually via laparotomy, b...
BACKGROUND First described in 1872, syringomas are common intraepidermal sweat gland tumors most often found in women during adolescence. Frequent involvement areas are the lower eyelids and malar areas; vulvar involvement is relatively rare. These lesions often appear as small, separate, yellowish papules of about 1-3 mm in size and are generally associated with increased vulvar discomfort and...
The aim of this review is to increase the understanding of management of adnexal cysts detected antenatally. Advancements in ultrasound technology have aided in the early detection of adnexal cysts. Adnexal cysts are recognized as most often being a consequence of the hormonal milieu associated with pregnancy. Often, these cysts are simple-appearing and measure smaller than four centimeters. Ho...

Objective The risk factors for vulvar dysplasia and infections are not fully known. In this study, we aimed to investigate the correlation between pubic hair shaving and the occurrence of vulvar inflammation, dysplasia, and cancer. Methods This study was performed between January 2013 and December 2016 in which a standardized questionnaire concerning genital hair shaving was administered to v...
A procedure that could allow an early in vivo and non-invasive detection of vulvar lesions would be extremely useful. We tested an innovative optical method (Optiprobe), which uses a harmless, visible light source for the in vivo, on-line detection of minimal alterations in the structure of vulvar epithelium. A group of 3 female volunteers without gynecological symptoms were first screened to e...
