This paper presents a new electronic voting system, called Direct Recording Electronic with Integrity (DRE-i). The DRE is a widely deployed voting system that commonly uses touch-screen technology to directly record votes. However, a lack of tallying integrity is widely considered the most contentious problem with the DRE system. In this work, we take a broad interpretation of the DRE: which in...
Electronic voting system is an important tool which allows voters to vote over the Internet without the geographical restrictions with considers important criteria in evaluating electronic voting schemes such as the mobility, democracy, and privacy. There are a number of voting systems adopted all over the world with each of them having its peculiar problems. The main task of this paper is to i...
This chapter1 describes a research experience of designing, implementing and trialling a new e-voting system called Direct Recording Electronic with Integrity (DRE-i). DRE-i is an example of a new category of voting systems that are end-to-end (E2E) verifiable without involving any tallying authorities. Such voting systems are termed “self-enforcing e-voting”.
In this paper we design an e-voting protocol for an academic voting system which should be independent from other university applications. We briefly discuss security requirements for e-voting schemes focusing on our proposed scheme. We design a receipt-free e-voting protocol which requires neither anonymous channel nor other physical assumptions. We give a short survey on formal analysis of e-...
The rapid development of communication and information technology has made electronic voting technologically and economically feasible. In this study, we will examine the differential impact of four electronic voting system (EVS) characteristics (privacy, accessibility, mobility, and accuracy) on voter participation intention (i.e., EVS voting) and on preferred EVS mechanism (telephone, Web-bas...
Due to convenience and efficiency, electronic voting (e-voting) techniques gradually replace traditional paper-based voting activities in some developed countries. A secure anonymous e-voting system has to satisfy many properties, such as completeness, tally correctness, and uncoercibility, where the uncoercibility property is the most difficult one to be achieved. Since each voter can obtain a...
We compare the techniques of voting and stacking for system combination in datadriven dependency parsing, using a set of eight different transition-based parsers as component systems. Experimental results show that both methods lead to significant improvements over the best component system, and that voting gives the highest overall accuracy. We also investigate different weighting schemes for ...
Concerns are often raised as to the safety of remote voting systems (and indeed polling station voting systems) when conducted using electronic equipment. Here, a formal analysis is conducted of the UK postal ballot system in order to demonstrate that some of the concerns regarding remote electronic voting are as applicable to remote paper based system.
We consider the design of an optimal voting system when voting is costly. For a private values model with two alternatives we show the optimality of a voting system that combines three elements: (i) there is an arbitrarily chosen default decision and non-participation is interpreted as a vote in favor of the default; (ii) voting is sequential; (iii) not all voters are invited to participate in ...
Typically each voter contributes with one vote for an election. But there are some elections where voters can have different weights associated with their vote. In this paper we provide a solution for allowing an arbitrary number of weights and weight values to be used in an electronic voting system. We chose REVS, Robust Electronic Voting System, a voting system designed to support Internet vo...
