Prostate maldevelopment in prune-belly syndrome has only been described at necropsy. No reports are available in the "in vivo" studies. The absence of the verumontanum at voiding cystourethrography correlates with verumontanum and prostate hypoplasia. This radiographic sign can represent the earliest finding in prostate maldevelopment and might contribute to the "in vivo" assessment of the dise...

OBJECTIVE A first febrile urinary tract infection leads to the diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux in 20% to 40% of children. Systematic voiding cystourethrography then is recommended. However, for 60% to 80% of the children, voiding cystourethrography is a posteriori normal. Moreover, it is irradiating, painful, and expensive. Thus, selective approaches are needed. Because procalcitonin has bee...

Epididymo-orchitis is an uncommon complication of posterior urethral valve. A four-year-old boy was admitted because of right-sided epididymo-orchitis. Scintigraphy of the scrotum showed increased uptake of radiotracer on the right side. The posterior urethral valve was disclosed by voiding cystourethrography. Ablation of the valve and antibiotic therapy made the patient free of symptoms.

BACKGROUND The 2011 American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines state that renal and bladder ultrasound (RBUS) should be performed after initial febrile urinary tract infection (UTI) in a young child, with voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) performed only if RBUS shows abnormalities. We sought to determine test characteristics and predictive values of RBUS for VCUG findings in this setting. METHOD...

BACKGROUND Posterior urethral valve (PUV) is life-threatening congenital anomaly of the urinary tract that results in vesicoureteric reflux, recurrent UTI, voiding dysfunction and renal insufficiency if not treat timely. Congenital anterior urethrocutaneous fistula and megalourethra are both rare anomalies. These anomalies are commonly associated with other anorectal or genitourinary anomalies and evaluated with voiding cystourethrography. We examined a 34-month-old boy who presented with a fistula at the penoscrotal junction. A voiding cystourethrogram showed a jet of urine coming through the fistula and proxi...
