Today, tens of millions of elderly individuals worldwide suffer from dementia. While the pathogenesis of dementia is complex and incompletely understood, it may be, at least to a certain extent, the consequence of systemic vascular pathology. The metabolic syndrome and its individual components induce a proinflammatory state that damages blood vessels. This condition of chronic inflammation may...

The main objective of this paper is to address the performance of immunochemical assays for the detection of the residues of three pesticides [atrazine, bromopropylate, and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP)] in real winery samples, such as wine, grapes, and grape juice. Different approaches have been evaluated to minimize interferences from the matrixes, and suitable working protocols have been estab...

Objective: Due to rich resources of phenolic components such as anthocyanin and flavonoids, grape has grabbed lots of attention. Antioxidants are the frontline of the human immune system against free radicals and they are of high importance for the human health. Methods: In order to determine antioxidant activities, the amount of phenols, anthocyanin and ascorbic acid of 2 grapes’ varieties ("w...

The growth of yeasts that occur naturally in grape juice was quantitatively examined during the fermentation of four wines that had been inoculated with Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Although S. cerevisiae dominated the wine fermentations, there was significant growth of the natural species Kloeckera apiculata, Candida stellata, Candida colliculosa, Candida pulcherrima, and Hansenula anomala.

Grape composition plays important role for wine grapes in terms of wine grape quality. Besides, monoterpenes are a chemical class of compounds present in many highly aromatic Vitis vinifera L. cultivars belonging to Muscat family and some other special cultivars. One of these special grape cultivars is Sauvignon Blanc, and in this study, cluster thinning and its treatment times were used for a ...

Pomegranate juice (PJ), which is a rich source of potent flavonoid antioxidants, was tested for its capacity to protect nitric oxide (NO) against oxidative destruction and enhance the biological actions of NO. Employing chemiluminescence headspace analysis, PJ was found to be a potent inhibitor of superoxide anion-mediated disappearance of NO. PJ was much more potent than Concord grape juice, b...
