We report a near-visible parametric wavelength converter comprising a polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber (PM-PCF) pumped by a highly versatile diode-seeded master-oscillator power amplifier system based around 1.06 μm. The device is broadly tunable in wavelength (0.74-0.81 μm), pulse duration (0.2-1.5 ns) and repetition rate (1-30 MHz). A maximum anti-Stokes slope conversion effici...

A new output structure for class E power amplifier (PA) is proposed in this paper. A series LC resonator circuit, tuned near the second harmonic of the operating frequency is added to the output circuit. This resonator causes low impedance at the second harmonic. The output circuit is designed to shape the switch voltage of the class E amplifier and lower the voltage stress of the transistor. T...

A room-temperature, diode-pumped, pulsed Yb:YAG ceramic free-running laser with a 78% slope efficiency has been demonstrated. It has been shown that fine tuning of the mode diameter to the diameter of the pumped volume with a ratio of the pump to the mode diameter of 0.6 is important for achieving maximum laser efficiency with a Gaussian-like beam profile. A regenerative Yb:YAG ceramic amplifie...

The CD4046BC micropower phase-locked loop (PLL) consists of a low power, linear, voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), a source follower, a zener diode, and two phase comparators. The two phase comparators have a common signal input and a common comparator input. The signal input can be directly coupled for a large voltage signal, or capacitively coupled to the self-biasing amplifier at the sign...

Spectral gain narrowing of high-average power, regenerative chirped pulse thin-rod Yb:YAG amplifier was compensated by the regenerative spectral and pulse shaping technique. An average output power of 18 W was achieved at a repetition rate of 100 kHz with an output pulse width of below 1.2 ps. A wide spectral bandwidth of 2.5 nm was also observed. 2009 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (1...

We report on the use of a fixed-spacer Fabry-Perot ring cavity to filter spatially and temporally a 10-W laser-diode-pumped Nd:YAG master-oscillator power amplifier. The spatial filtering leads to a 7.6-W TEM (00) beam with 0.1% higher-order transverse mode content. The temporal filtering reduces the relative power fluctuations at 10 MHz to 2.8x10(-9)/ radicalHz, which is 1 dB above the shot-no...

We present the angular-resolved intensity noise characteristics of a resonant-cavity light-emitting diode under quiet pumping conditions. Measurements by a sensitivity-enhanced lock-in amplifier detection scheme yielded a spatial anticorrelation between the intensity noise of the central and peripheral parts of the emitted far field. Proposals for possible explanations of this anticorrelation f...

The tunnel restoration has been suggested as a conservative alternative to the conventional box preparation for treating proximal caries. The main advantage of tunnel restoration over the conventional box or slot preparation includes being more conservative and increasing tooth integrity and strength by preserving the marginal ridge. However, tunnel restoration is technique-sensitive and can be...

We demonstrate a passively mode-locked diode-pumped thin-disk Yb:YAG laser generating 810-fs pulses at 1030 nm with as much as 60 W of average output power (without using an amplifier). At a pulse repetition rate of 34.3 MHz, the pulse energy is 1.75 microJ and the peak power is as high as 1.9 MW. The beam quality is close to the diffraction limit, with M2 < 1.1.
