Abstract. The emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from chemical products (VCPs) – specifically personal care products, cleaning agents, coatings, adhesives, and pesticides are emerging as the largest source petroleum-derived carbon in US cities. Previous work has shown that ambient concentration markers for most VCP categories correlates strongly with population density, except VOCs ...
Acrylic-based coatings are produced in formulations to suit all the major markets within the coatings industry. Industrial, decorative, printing inks, powder, and wall coverings are some of the market areas where acrylic-based coatings are widely used. Water emulsion and film-forming acrylic-based coatings are of particular importance due to their relative high performance and extremely low vol...
Abstract. Benzene is a volatile organic compound: when it contaminates a river, some of the substance will evaporate as it flows through. We examine the volumetric flow rate to find how volatilization affects the concentration levels of benzene as the substance flows through several consecutive sections of a river, using a specific example to illustrate the general method.
A novel artificial sweat composition, Skin Community Interaction simulation, designed to mimic the human axillary sweat, was compared to other artificial sweat compositions. Axillary microbiota grown in the novel composition closely resembled the original community. Volatile organic compound analysis showed good correlations with in vivo axillary (mal)odor components.
Consumers' interest in the way meat is produced is increasing in Europe. The resulting free range and organic meat products retail at a higher price, but are difficult to differentiate from their counterparts. To ascertain authenticity and prevent fraud, relevant markers need to be identified and new analytical methodology developed. The objective of this pilot study was to characterize pork be...
Bioremediation is a process in which microorganisms metabolize contaminants either through oxidative or reductive processes. Under favorable conditions, microorganisms can oxidatively degrade organic contaminants completely into non-toxic by-products such as carbon dioxide and water or organic acids and methane. Highly electrophilic compounds such as halogenated aliphatics and explosives typica...
The presence of knots or heartwood influences the amount and composition of volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions associated with drying of southern pine lumber. Experimental kiln charges of lumber containing 0 to 5% of knot volume gave VOC emissions ranging from 2.86 to 4.25 lb of carbonldry ton of wood. Studies of emissions from sapwood and knots showed that knots contain about ten times ...
this paper reports results of a study regarding the activities of nano structure mn/γ-al2o3 and γ-al2o3 catalysts for oxidation of 2-propanol (as a model of volatile organic compound). nanostructure of catalysts was revealed using xrd, sem and tem techniques. catalytic studies were carried out in u-shaped packed bed reactor under atmospheric pressure and at the reaction temperature of 150- 500°...
Air quality models that generate the concentrations of semi-volatile and other condensable organic compounds using an explicit reaction mechanism require estimates of the physical and thermodynamic properties of the compounds that affect gas/aerosol partitioning: vapour pressure (as a subcooled liquid), and activity coefficients in the aerosol phase. The model of Griffin, Kleeman and coworkers ...
