Central toroidal rotation and impurity transport coe cients have been determined in Alcator C-Mod Ohmic High Con nement Mode (H-mode) plasmas from observations of x-ray emission following impurity injection. Rotation velocities up to 3 10 m/s in the co-current direction have been observed in the center of the best Ohmic H-mode plasmas. Purely Ohmic H-mode plasmas display many characteristics si...

Co-current central toroidal rotation has been observed in Alcator C-Mod plasmas with on-axis ICRF heating. The rotation velocity increases with plasma stored energy and decreases with plasma current. Very similar behavior has been seen during Ohmic H-modes, which suggests that the rotation, generated in the absence of an external momentum source, is not principally an ICRF effect. A scan of the...

The time evolution of toroidal rotation velocity profiles has been measured in Alcator C-Mod [I. H. Hutchinson et al., Phys. Plasmas 1, 1511 (1994)] plasmas using a tangentially viewing x-ray spectrometer array. The strong co-current toroidal rotation in enhanced Dα (EDA) high confinement mode (H-mode) plasmas is observed to propagate in from the edge on a time scale similar to the energy confi...

We have investigated the F0V star V398Aurigae (= 9 Aur) under the assumption that it is undergoing non-radial gravity mode oscillations and that the two principal periods given by Krisciunas et al. (1995) are correct. We find that the two periods are manifestations of an l = 3, |m| = 1 spheroidal mode and its toroidal corrections due to the rotation of the star. As far as we know, this is the f...

Numerical simulations of the kinematic induction equation are performed on a model configuration of the Cadarache von-Kármán-sodium dynamo experiment. The effect of a localized axisymmetric distribution of relative permeability μr that represents soft iron material within the conducting fluid flow is investigated. The critical magnetic Reynolds number Rmc for dynamo action of the first non-axis...

Experimental results are reported for the bulk motion induced in a bed of granular matter contained in a cylindrical pan with a flat bottom subjected to simultaneous vertical and horizontal vibrations. The motion in space of the moving pan is quantified. A number of distinct bulk dynamical modes are observed in which the particle bed adopts different shapes and motions. At the lowest pan excita...

Quasi-single-helicity (QSH) states, characterized by a magnetic spectrum dominated by the innermost resonant tearing mode, are common to all the reversed field pinch (RFP) experiments. The internal magnetic field structure produced by the dominant mode is investigated for the QSH observed in the Madison Symmetric Torus (MST) RFP in discharges with zero toroidal magnetic field at the plasma boun...

We report a new technique for the rapid fabrication of microstripe cylindrical and toroidal mirrors with a high ratio (>10) of the two principal radii of curvature (RoC(1)/RoC(2)), and demonstrate their effectiveness as mode-selecting resonator mirrors for high-power planar waveguide lasers. In this process, the larger radius of curvature (RoC(1)) is determined by the planar or cylindrical shap...
