Microbe-mediated soil uptake is the largest and most uncertain variable in the budget of atmospheric hydrogen (H2 ). The diversity and ecophysiological role of soil microorganisms that can consume low atmospheric abundances of H2 with high-affinity [NiFe]-hydrogenases is unknown. We expanded the library of atmospheric H2 -consuming strains to include four soil Harvard Forest Isolate (HFI) Strep...

Vector systems allowing autonomous or site-specific integrative gene cloning were developed for Micromonospora sp. strain 40027, a producer of the antibiotic fortimicin A. The autonomous system depends on the discovery of a low-copy-number, self-transmissible covalently closed circular plasmid, pJTU112 (ca. 14.1 kb), which was shown to be present in the progenitor strain in both integrated and ...

A new cypermethrin degrading strain was isolated from wastewater sludge using enrichment technique. On the basis of morphological, physiological, biochemical characteristics tests and 16S rDNA sequence analysis, the strain was determined to be a Streptomyces species, probably a strain of Streptomyces parvulus, so it was designated as Streptomyces sp. HU-S-01. The strain Streptomyces sp.HU-S-01 ...

Streptomyces spp. have the ability to produce a wide variety of secondary metabolites that interact with the environment. This study aimed to discover antifungal volatiles from the genus Streptomyces and to determine the mechanisms of inhibition. Volatiles identified from Streptomyces spp. included three major terpenes, geosmin, caryolan-1-ol and an unknown sesquiterpene. antiSMASH and KEGG pre...

A new antifungal antibiotic was isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces sp. 5140-A1. Degradation studies of the crystalline antibiotic, m.p. 186 approximately 188 degrees C, C21H28O8N2, suggested Piricularia oryzae and less toxicity against killfish than antimycin A--blastmycin antibiotics.
