Current systems use caching to provide high performance and possibly support disconnected operation. However, current solutions are type specific. With the advent of modular distributed operating systems and mobile machines there is a need to provide generic support for implementing cacheable/disconnectable services. We present an architecture that can be used to implement cacheable/disconnecta...
SMQ / VOL. XII / NO. 1 / SPRING 2006 ABSTRACT Partnership development for national social marketing campaigns is a much copied, but poorly researched, area of practice. As part of the development of Phase II of the Centers for Disease Control’s National Bone Health Campaign, several needs-assessment and market analysis activities were conducted to develop partnership strategies that were respon...
Computer animation has been a popular research topic since 1970s, when the first parametric facial model is proposed[0]. In the recent few years, a lot of techniques are proposed to model and animate faces like physical modelling, motion capture, mesh deformation etc. However, most of them require burden work of artists and assistance of expensive model. Rigging is one kind of the most popular ...
In the 1960s the isolated tropical forest enclave of Quintana Roo was targeted by the Mexican Government to serve as the cornerstone for launching what is now considered to be one of Mexico’s most successful economic development strategies – Planned Tourism Development (PTD). This paper commences with a brief review of the role of state-driven PTD in Mexico’s national economic development agend...
Across two years, we examined the effects of teachers’ attempts to implement computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) communities in classrooms in two high schools on students’ knowledge building, strategic learning, and perceptions of the classroom environment. In year one, 429 (fall) and 317 (spring) students in the classes of 8 teachers and in year two, 946 students in the classes of...
Holyoak and Thagard proposed that the retrieval and mapping tasks of analogy can be viewed as constraint satisfaction problems, and described a connectionist implementation of their proposal. In this paper, we describe another constraint satisfaction method for the two tasks in the context of visual analogy: in our method, the source cases are organized in a discrimination tree, and all the sou...

We survey the state of the art in the use of analogy in automated reasoning. We are particularly interested in the work of Melis and Whittle (1998). A detailed analysis of their analogy mechanism is given. The problem domain that they tackled is inductive theorems. We examine whether their technique can be used in other problems domains, e.g. in the domain of limit theorems and group theory.
