We investigate the light emission properties of electrical dipole emitters inside 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) silicon slot waveguides and evaluate the spontaneous emission enhancement (F(p)) and waveguide coupling ratio (beta). Under realistic conditions, we find that greater than 10-fold enhancement in F(p) can be achieved, together with a beta as large as 0.95. In contrast to th...
Lasing in a cavity formed by a dye-doped micrometer-sized liquid droplet showed a new thresholdless steady-state behavior and a time-dependent response. The thresholdless behavior is associated with enhancement and inhibition of the spontaneous emission. The time-dependent response is related to various quality factors of the cavity modes and was determined to be 8 x 10(8).
Quantum random number generation (QRNG) has become a topic of growing interest in recent years due to important applications cryptography and simulations. Interferometric detection phase diffusion gain-switched single-mode semiconductor lasers is one the main techniques. In this paper, we study experimentally theoretically discrete mode laser diodes. We derive stochastic rate equations model fo...
Dopants in silicon (Si) have attracted attention in the fields of photonics and quantum optics. However, the optical characteristics are limited by the small spontaneous emission rate of dopants in Si. This study demonstrates a large increase in the spontaneous emission rate of copper isoelectronic centres (Cu-IECs) doped into Si photonic crystal nanocavities. In a cavity with a quality factor ...
The spontaneous-emission lifetime of CdSe/CdS core-shell quantum dots was studied as a function of the distance between the dots and a polished Si surface. The experimental results reveal a significant modification of the spontaneous-emission rate of the quantum dots by the Si surface.
Large spontaneous-emission enhancements in metallic nanostructures: towards LEDs faster than lasers.
Recent progress in the design and realization of optical antennas enclosing fluorescent materials has demonstrated large spontaneous-emission enhancements and, simultaneously, high radiation efficiencies. We discuss here that an important objective of such work is to increase spontaneous-emission rates to such a degree that light-emitting diodes (LEDs) can possess modulation speeds exceeding th...
Engineering the surrounding electromagnetic environment of light emitters by photonic engineering, e.g. photonic crystal cavity, can dramatically enhance its spontaneous emission rate through the Purcell effect. Here we report an enhanced spontaneous emission rate of monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) by coupling it to a 1D silicon nitride photonic crystal. A four times stronger photolumines...
