Calcium-channel blockers (CCB) were first developed in the 1960s. Since then, the list of formulations and variety of uses has increased significantly. Unfortunately, toxic exposures to CCBs have also increased since their debut. This ...

The aim of this study was to investigate the unknown effects 17β-estradiol (E2) on ureteral contractility and receptor mechanisms involved. By utilising isolated porcine distal strips, we observed that E2 (30–300 μM) a G protein-coupled estrogen specific agonist G-1 (30 both increased frequency phasic contractions ureter (P<0.05). also decreased maximum amplitude these antagonist G-36 (10 rever...

AIM To perform a systematic-review and meta-analysis to compare outcomes of ivabradine combined with beta-blocker to beta-blocker alone in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). METHODS We searched PubMed, Cochrane, EMBASE, CINAHL and Web of Science for trials comparing ivabradine + beta-blocker to beta-blocker alone in HFrEF. We performed a systematic-review and meta-analysis ...

The endotracheal tube with a movable bronchial blocker, Univent tube, used to effect one-lung ventilation is easy to use in endotracheal intubation. However, problems are often encountered when inserting the blocker into the bronchus. We herein describe a method which enables the easy blind insertion of the blocker into the left or right bronchus. The techniques of inserting the blocker into th...

Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a highly specific blocker of voltage-gated sodium channels. The dissociation constant of block varies with different channel isoforms. Until recently, channel resistance was thought to be primarily imparted by amino acid substitutions at a single position in domain I. Recent work reveals a novel site for tetrodotoxin resistance in the P-region of domain IV.

The precise mechanism by which angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker reduces in-stent restenosis in clinical trials is unclear. We, therefore, investigated the mechanism of in-stent neointima formation. Male cynomolgus monkeys and rabbits were fed a high-cholesterol diet and were allocated to untreated control and type 1 receptor blocker groups. Five days after grouping, multilink stents were ...

BACKGROUND Although current guidelines recommend β-blocker after acute myocardial infarction (MI), the role of β-blocker has not been well investigated in the modern reperfusion era. In particular, the benefit of vasodilating β-blocker over conventional β-blocker is still unexplored. METHODS AND RESULTS Using nation-wide multicenter Korean Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry data, we analyze...

The primary mode of action of local anesthetics is through sodium channel and axonal conduction blockade. Local anesthetics have also extensive effects on pre-synaptic calcium channels that must function to stimulate the release of neurotransmitters. Thus, interference with calcium channel conductance may enhance spinal anesthesia with local anesthetics. The present study was designed to invest...
