In this paper we present CUDA kernels that compute an interval matrix product. Starting from a naive implementation we investigate possible speedups using commonly known techniques from standard matrix multiplication. We also evaluate the achieved speedup when our kernels are used to accelerate a variant of an existing algorithm that finds an enclosure for the solution of a linear system. Moreo...

Abstract: We investigate the nature of heat transfer and entropy generation for natural convection in a two-dimensional circular section enclosure. The enclosure is assumed to fill with porous media. The Darcy momentum equation is used to model the porous media. The full governing differential equations are simplified with the Boussinesq approximation and solved by a finite volume method. Where...

Given a planar spline curve and local tolerances, a matched pair of polygons is computed that encloses the curve and whose width (distance between corresponding break points) is below the tolerances. This is the simplest instance of a subdividable linear efficient variety enclosure, short sleve. We develop general criteria, that certify correctness of a global, polygonal enclosure built from a ...

In this paper, we study a new problem of finding a convex drawing of graphs with a non-convex boundary. It is proved that every triconnected plane graph whose boundary is fixed with a star-shaped polygon admits a drawing in which every inner facial cycle is drawn as a convex polygon. Such a drawing, called an inner-convex drawing, can be obtained in linear time.

The problem of computing the range y of a given function f(x1, . . . , xn) over given intervals xi – often called the main problem of interval computations – is, in general, NP-hard. This means that unless P = NP, it is not possible to have a feasible (= polynomial time) algorithm that always computes the desired range. Instead, interval computations algorithms compute an enclosure Y ⊇ y for th...

This paper presents a framework for constructing and analyzing enclosures of the reachable set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) using continuous-time setpropagation methods. The focus is on convex enclosures that can be characterized in terms of their support functions. A generalized differential inequality is introduced, whose solutions describe such support functions for a ...

High clock frequencies and short edge rates in present high-speed digital systems result in EMI problems at increasingly higher frequencies. At these speeds, clock harmonics have sufficient energy in the range above 500 MHz to excite cavity modes of a conducting enclosure, and to drive even small length slots and apertures that are unavoidable in a practical design, and can result in an EM1 pro...

In May 1977, a group of 27 Japanese macaques (9 males and 18 females) was captured as a whole near mount Takasaky, Oita prefecture, in Southern Japan, and transferred to the Rome Zoo (Bioparco, since 1998). The group was housed in an enclosure formed by a large (i.e. 700 m2) outdoor area and by 100 m2 indoor quarters with concrete floor and walls (see Figure 1). The enclosure remained basically...

Effects of inclination angle on natural convection heat transfer and fluid flow in a two-dimensional enclosure filled with Cu-nanofluid has been analyzed numerically. The performance of nanofluids is tested inside an enclosure by taking into account the solid particle dispersion. The angle of inclination is used as a control parameter for flow and heat transfer. It was varied from = 0 to = 120 ...

Polistes dominulus females that adopt nests are less cooperative and may expend less energy than nest founding wasps. In an enclosure, 14 nests were adopted by individuals previously unassociated with any nest. No preference for enclosure or non-enclosure nests was detected, suggesting that adopters do not preferentially secure nests containing non-descendent kin. Instead, adopters — who were s...
