A series of dithia[3.3]metaparacyclophane-based monometal ruthenium acetylide complexes have been synthesized. All of the complexes have been fully characterised by NMR spectrometry, X-ray crystallography and elemental analyses. At the same time, their basic optical properties, such as UV/Vis absorption spectra, and electrochemical properties have been determined. (1)H NMR and X-ray crystal str...

A luminescent supramolecular link is constructed by a very simple method using bipyridine-ruthenium and cyclodextrin, which displays not only a quasi-linear structure, but also a satisfactory fluorescence emission in both solution and the solid state.

Over the past 20 years, ruthenium(II)-based dyes have played a pivotal role in turning dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) into a mature technology for the third generation of photovoltaics. However, the classic I3(-)/I(-) redox couple limits the performance and application of this technique. Simply replacing the iodine-based redox couple by new types like cobalt(3+/2+) complexes was not successf...

The photophysical properties of gold nanoparticles, AuNPs, with sizes of 13, 50 and 100 nm in diameter, coated with surface-active ruthenium complexes have been studied to investigate the effect of the distance of the ruthenium luminescent centre from the gold surface. Luminescence lifetimes of the three ruthenium probes, RuS1, RuS6 and RuS12, with different length spacer units between the surf...

The chemistry of metal cyclopropenyl complexes derived from deprotonation of cationic ruthenium vinylidene complexes is reviewed. Such a metal coordinated cyclopropenyl ligand can be used for the preparation of heterocyclic compounds. The chemical reactivity of cyclopropenyl complexes is influenced by the nature of substituents on the three-membered ring and by the nature of ancillary ligand ar...

We describe a crystal structure, at atomic resolution (1.1 Å, 100 K), of a ruthenium polypyridyl complex bound to duplex DNA, in which one ligand acts as a wedge in the minor groove, resulting in the 51° kinking of the double helix. The complex cation Λ-[Ru(1,4,5,8-tetraazaphenanthrene)(2)(dipyridophenazine)](2+) crystallizes in a 11 ratio with the oligonucleotide d(TCGGCGCCGA) in the presence ...

Novel ruthenium(II) complexes were obtained as a result of a stoichiometric reaction of Grubbs' benzylidene second generation catalysts with 3-nitropropene. These stable complexes, formally ruthenaisoxazole N-oxide derivatives, display activity in both metathesis and non-metathetic processes such as cycloisomerisation, isomerisation and transfer hydrogenation.

An intramolecular Diels-Alder (IMDA) reaction was observed at room temperature between an allyl group and a chloroanthracenyl group that were both bonded to the vinylidene ligand of the cationic ruthenium complex [Ru]dCdC(CH2CHdCH2)CH(CH2CHdCH2)(C14H8Cl) (6; [Ru] ) Cp(PPh3)3Ru). The vinylidene ligand functions as a mediator to bring the allyl and the chloroanthracenyl groups in proximity for th...

By using [Ru(TTP)CO] [H2TTP = meso-tetrakis(4-tolyl)porphyrin] as catalyst and aryl azides as the nitrene source, the sp(2)(C-H) bonds of a series of indoles undergo oxidative C-N bond formation to give unique 2,3-diimination products in good to high yields.
