In an urban area, the roof is the only available surface that can be utilized for installing solar photovoltaics (PV), and the active surface area depends on the type of roof. Shadows on a solar panel can be caused by nearby tall buildings, construction materials such as water tanks, or the roof configuration itself. The azimuth angle of the sun varies, based on the season and the time of day. ...

The roof rat (Rattus rattus) u t i l i z e s Algerian ivy and the Himalayan blackberry for food and cover, often l i v i n g independent of man. Algerian ivy is the most popular ornamental and ground cover plant in California and is used extensively for landscaping, particularly in southern California. The Himalayan blackberry inhabited by feral roof rats, grows abundantly in northern C a l i f...

The roof plate is a signalling centre positioned at the dorsal midline of the central nervous system and generates dorsalising morphogenic signals along the length of the neuraxis. Within cranial ventricles, the roof plate gives rise to choroid plexus, which regulates the internal environment of the developing and adult brain and spinal cord via the secretion of cerebrospinal fluid. Using the f...

A novel Markov random field (MRF) model is proposed for roof-edge (as well as step-edge) preserving image smoothing. Image surfaces containing roof-edges are represented by piecewise continuous polynomial functions governed by a few parameters. Piecewise smoothness constraint is imposed on these parameters rather than on the surface heights as is in traditional models for step-edges. In this wa...

The self-consistent integral equation for the field distribution of the resonant modes in a resonator with a tilted retroreflecting roof mirror is solved. The field distribution in the direction of the roof can be described in terms of Hermite-Gaussian functions. The beam matrix for a retroreflecting roof is found, and a new type of resonator which does not need precise alignment is proposed.

We attempted to define the central nervous system (CNS) concomitants of various types of orbital fractures in children by reviewing the records of 95 inpatients with admission diagnoses including orbital fracture who presented to the Children's National Medical Center from 1987 through 1994. Patients were divided into three age groups: group I: 0-5 years; group II: 6-12 years; group III: older ...

have problems weighing the various factors that influence the need for roof repair. So, how can you do away with these traditional, bulky, tools, while improving service and the ability to train new staff? We devised a PDA-based expert system that uses artificial neural networks to provide a roofing advisor. Roofers might be familiar with a large number of roof types but concentrate on those fo...

In the present study, the effect of simultaneous utilizing of atrium and green roof on the energy consumption of a college dormitory has been evaluated under three different climatic conditions of Iran, including Tehran, Tabriz, and Bandar Abbas. Therefore, four different construction designs on the basis of using atrium and green roof has been considerd for a college dormitory. Results indicat...

In this work, an automated approach for 3D building roof modelling is presented. The method consists of two main parts, namely roof detection and 3D geometric modelling. For the detection, a combined approach of four methods achieved the best results, using slope-based DSM filtering as well as classification of multispectral images, elevation data and vertical LiDAR point density. In the evalua...
