We complete the analysis of meson resonance contributions to chiral low-energy constants of O(p 4) by including all quark-antiquark bound states with orbital angular momentum ≤ 1. Different tensor meson Lagrangians used in previous work are shown to produce the same final results for the low-energy constants once QCD short-distance constraints are properly implemented. We also discuss the possi...

The dynamic coupling between giant resonance states and “soft” low-energy excitation modes in weakly-bound nuclei is investigated. A coupled-channels calculation is reported for the reaction 8B + Pb → p + 7Be + Pb at 83 MeV/nucleon. It is shown that the low-energy response is only marginally modified by transitions to the isovector giant dipole and isoscalar giant quadrupole resonances.  2002 ...

Biological electron-transfer (ET) reactions are typically described in the framework of coherent two-state electron tunneling or multistep hopping. However, these ET reactions may involve multiple redox cofactors in van der Waals contact with each other and with vibronic broadenings on the same scale as the energy gaps among the species. In this regime, fluctuations of the molecular structures ...

Magnetoelectric effect, arising from the interfacial coupling between magnetic and electrical order parameters, has recently emerged as a robust means to electrically manipulate the magnetic properties in multiferroic heterostructures. Challenge remains as finding an energy efficient way to modify the distinct magnetic states in a reliable, reversible, and non-volatile manner. Here we report fe...

Using a combination of electronic-structure and many-body calculations, we investigate correlations effects in the halfmetallic ferromagnet NiMnSb. A realistic many-body Hamiltonian, containing only Mn-d orbitals shows the importance of non-quasiparticle states just above the Fermi level. Our results suggest that for a better description of low energy states around Fermi level, Ni-d orbitals s...

to investigate the electromagnetic interaction of molecules inside the nanotubes, first, the structure of nanotubes b16n16 was optimized with hybrid density functional theory (b3lyp) using the epr-ii basis set, then cu, cu+, cu++ were located in nanotube and we studied the total energy, band gap energy, electrical potential, changes of band gap energy in terms of total energy and dipole moment ...

The Mössbauer effect was first described by Rudolf Mössbauer in 1957. The effect describes how nuclei can emit or absorb gamma-rays without recoiling under certain circumstances. When a free nuclei emits or absorbs gamma-rays, it recoils as a result of energy and momentum conservation. As a result, if a free nucleus undergoes a transition from an excited state to its ground state by emitting ga...

In some nuclei along the drip-line, for example the exotic nuclei 11 Be, an energy level inversion between the 2s ½ and 1p ½ states occurs. Interest in the mirror state of 11 Be on the proton rich side, 11 N, resulted in a continuation of an earlier study searching for resonances in this nucleus. The experiment involved the resonance scattering reaction 10 C + p in inverse kinematics performed ...

In some nuclei along the drip-line, for example the exotic nuclei Be, an energy level inversion between the 2s1⁄2 and 1p1⁄2 states occurs. Interest in the mirror state of Be on the proton rich side, N, resulted in a continuation of an earlier study searching for resonances in this nucleus. This experiment involved the resonance scattering reaction C + p in inverse kinematics performed at the NS...

The status of partial wave analyses of TN nnN in the energy range 1300 < E < 2000 MeV is reviewed. In the majority of partial waves the total nN inelasticity is accounted for and the inelastic decay channels of many resonances are observed. In total 23 resonance couplings to the states nA, Np, NE are measured both in magnitude and sign. The DI3 state in the region of 1700 MeV is unambiguously o...
