We study enhancement of diffusive mixing by fast incompressible time-periodic flows. The class of relaxation-enhancing flows that are especially efficient in speeding up mixing has been introduced in [2]. The relaxation-enhancing property of a flow has been shown to be intimately related to the properties of the dynamical system it generates. In particular, time-independent flows u such that th...

We study effective relaxation time of viscous hydrodynamics of strongly coupled nonconformal gauge theory plasma using gauge theory/string theory correspondence. We compute leading corrections to the conformal plasma relaxation time from the relevant deformations due to dim-2 and dim-3 operators. We discuss in details the relaxation time τeff of N = 2 plasma. For a certain choice of masses this...

the relationship between relaxation and rhythmic exercises with regard to functional neuroplasticity mechanism is a subject that has been studied in recent researches. the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of rhythmic exercises on the depth of relaxation in national judo athletes. 30 male athletes of national judo team were randomly selected and divided into three groups: cont...

We report a new strategy for designing a signal off-to-on-type (19)F MRI chemical probe that operates in biological environments. The present strategy is based on the control of adherence of a (19)F MRI chemical probe to certain blood proteins, accompanied by a change in transverse relaxation time of (19)F nuclei.

Using spin-echo NMR techniques we study the transverse spin relaxation of hyperpolarized liquid 129Xe in a spherical cell. We observe an instability of the transverse magnetization due to dipolar fields produced by liquid 129Xe, and find that imperfections in the pi pulses of the spin-echo sequence suppress this instability. A simple perturbative model of this effect is in good agreement with t...

New hydrodynamic models with feedback show that feedback driven turbulence and subsequent relaxation can drive recurrent starbursts, though most of these bursts fizzle due to premature, asymmetric ignition. Strong bursts are terminated when the turbulence inflates the multiphase central disk. The period between bursts is about twice a free-fall time onto the central disk. Transient spirals and ...

Possibility of description of the glass transition in terms of critical dynamics considering a hierarchy of the intermodal relaxation time is shown. The generalized Vogel-Fulcher law for the system relaxation time is derived in terms of this approach. It is shown that the system satisfies the fluctuating–dissipative theorem in case of the absence of the intermodal relaxation time hierarchy.

We prove a lower bound on the rate of relaxation to equilibrium in the H1 norm for a thin film equation. We find a two stage relaxation, with power law decay in an initial interval, followed by exponential decay, at an essentially optimal rate, for large times. The waiting time until the exponential decay sets in is explicitly estimated.

The transition from partial to complete spin polarization of two-dimensional electrons at half filling of the lowest Landau level has been studied using resistively detected nuclear magnetic resonance (RDNMR). The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time is observed to be density independent in the partially polarized phase but to increase sharply at the transition to full polarization. At low temp...

We generalize and test the recent "ab initio" self-consistent (AISC) time-independent semiclassical laser theory. This self-consistent formalism generates all the stationary lasing properties in the multimode regime (frequencies, thresholds, internal and external fields, output power and emission pattern) from simple inputs: the dielectric function of the passive cavity, the atomic transition f...
