A problem in accurately measuring regional myocardial blood flow by radiation washout techniques is the inability to localize precisely the origin of radiation in tissue. We developed a new approach for in vivo localization and quantification of regional blood flow. A miniature, silicon, solid-state, avalanche radiation detector, which measures the low-penetrating radiation from commonly availa...

Videodensitometric analysis of digital subtraction coronary arteriography, a new approach for calculating contrast disappearance half-life (T1/2), was assessed in determining regional myocardial blood flow quantitatively. Forty-one patients with coronary artery disease and 12 with angiographically normal coronary arteries underwent digital subtraction coronary arteriography by manual injection ...

Blood flow in the apparently ischaemic feet of patients with atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease was only weakly pulsatile but the volume of the resting total foot blood flow was higher than normal. No biochemical evidence of overall regional ischaemia or tissue anoxia was found to explain the aetiology of chronic nutritional skin lesions in these clinically ischaemic feet. The physiolo...

Intracoronary administration of complement component C5a induces transient decreases in coronary blood flow and regional left ventricular segment shortening, associated with intramyocardial granulocyte trapping. We evaluated the influence of a cyclooxygenase inhibitor (acetylsalicylic acid, n = 8) or a thromboxane A2/prostaglandin H2 receptor antagonist (SQ29548, n = 6) on these C5a-induced car...

Lidoflazine, a calcium channel blocker, was administered to dogs following twelve minutes of cerebral ischemia, induced by aortic cross-clamping. The effects of lidoflazine (1 mg/kg i.v.) on cerebral blood flow following ischemia was studied in 15 anesthetized, mechanically ventilated dogs. Cerebral blood flow was measured with the radiolabelled microsphere technique before and 10, 30, 60, 90 a...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The advent of faster computed tomography scanners has evoked considerable interest in using this technology as a more practical method of regional cerebral hemodynamic evaluation than the currently available positron emission and single-photon emission computed tomography. The theoretical concepts have been worked out and validated in the laboratory by several groups. The...

We determined the immediate effects of pentoxifylline on cerebral blood flow in 10 patients with cerebrovascular disease; four received 400 mg and six received 800 mg pentoxifylline orally. Regional cerebral blood flow was measured before (baseline) and 2, 4, and 6 hours after pentoxifylline administration using the xenon-133 clearance technique with 16 detectors (eight per hemisphere). Global ...

We examined regional cerebral blood flow response in a patient with gray matter heterotopia located beneath the sensorimotor cortex during a finger tapping task. We found regional cerebral blood flow was specifically increased during contralateral finger tapping. This indicated the possibility of functional differentiation of the ectopic neurons despite incomplete migration.
