We report the synthesis by RAFT polymerization of well-defined diblock copolymers bearing carbamoylmethylphosphonate moieties which proved to sorb gadolinium. These poly(diethyl-6-(acrylamido)hexylcarbamoylmethylphosphonate-b-acrylic acid) (P(CPAAm6C-b-AA)) copolymers were able to self-assemble as a function of temperature, above their cloud point value.

Diblock copolymers possessing amino or aldehyde functions within one of their blocks were prepared using RAFT polymerization techniques. These polymers were shown to cross-link through dynamic imine bonds to form core cross-linked star polymers which display a size-dependency upon the concentration at which the cross-linking reactions are performed.

We introduce the fully reversible folding of single chain nanoparticles (SCNPs) based on covalent hetero Diels-Alder (HDA) chemistry. A cyclopentadiene (Cp)-protected cyanodithioester (CDTE) monomer is designed and copolymerized with methyl methacrylate (MMA) via RAFT polymerization. The polymer chains are folded and subsequently unfolded by exploiting the reversible nature of the HDA reaction.

Chemi-enzymatic synthesis of ribavirin acrylate and subsequent RAFT co-polymerization with acrylic acid afforded a formulation of a broad spectrum antiviral drug which avoids accumulation in erythrocytes, the origin of the main side effect of ribavirin. In cultured macrophages the macromolecular prodrugs exhibited decreased toxicity while maintaining the anti-inflammatory action of ribavirin.
