Since the late 1800s, pinyon–juniper woodland across western U.S. has increased in density and areal extent encroached into former grassland areas. The San Carlos Apache Tribe wants to gain qualitative quantitative information on historical conditions of their tribal woodlands use as a baseline for restoration efforts. At Reservation, east-central Arizona, large swaths containing varying mixtur...
Abstract Cryopreservation of vegetatively propagated plant material is an increasingly widely used method for the efficient and safe storage germplasm resources around world. In Poland, there are currently four cryobanks in use long-term protection programs. However, tissues vitro constitute only a small portion accessions stored them. To date, cryogenic techniques have been developed adopted t...
Betula spp., Quercus and Populus spp. are the most promising deciduous woody plants in forestry. However, these species were found to be sensitive climate change that can badly affect their plantations. Thus, a deep understanding of genetic mechanisms adaptation adverse environmental conditions plays an important role preventing reduction forest area. This mini review describes stress responses...
In this study, two halophilic bacterial strains isolated from saline habitats in Argentina grew in the presence of gas oil. They were identified as Halomonas spp. and Nesterenkonia sp. by 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing. Chemotaxis towards gas oil was observed in Halomonas spp. by using swimming assays.
Background and objectives: Quercus brantii subsp. persica is used in folk medicine to treat infections in Iran. There is not available report on the anti-biofilm activity of Quercus brantii subsp. persica. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of Quercus brantii subsp. persica against bacterial biofilms. Methods: Eighty biofilm producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, S...
The increasingly widespread use of prescribed burns to manage oak (Quercus spp.)-hickory (Carya spp.) forests in the Missouri Ozarks, USA, has considerable potential to alter the abundance of Amblyomma americanum (L.) (Acari: Ixodidae), the lone star tick, an important vector of several emerging pathogens. In particular, responses of important tick hosts, primarily white-tailed deer (Odocoileus...
The aim of this research was to develop a stand-class growth and yield model based on the diameter growth dynamics of Pinus spp. and Quercus spp. of Mexico’s mixed temperate forests. Using a total of 2663 temporary, circular-sampling plots of 1000 m2 each, nine Weibull distribution techniques of parameter estimation were fitted to the diameter structures of pines and oaks. Statistical equations...
Decomposition of oak Quercus spp. logs (25-35 cm diameter, 3 m long) was compared among log substrates in Oregon, Minnesota, Kansas and North Carolina during the first five years on the ground. Decomposition of whole logs (weighted by substrate) averaged 0.069 yr~' (±0.16 SD), but followed a 2-exponential model (k = 0.12 yr" year 1 and k = 0.06 yr" years 2-5), reflecting qualitative differences...
