From available evidence lymphography must be considered to be a potentially dangerous method of investigation. However, if certain precautions are taken no serious complications should develop. Particular care should be taken over the amount of Lipiodol Ultra Fluid injected, especially after lymphadenectomy or in the presence of lymphatic obstruction, and the procedure should not be undertaken ...
The feasibility of the noninvasive assessment of blood 'coagulability' (the tendency to coagulate) has been tested by using a novel device, the Thrombo-Monitor. It monitors, by using the principles of near infra-red (NIR) dynamic light scattering, the tendency of blood to create clots. The Thrombo-Monitor observes the very initial changes of blood viscosity, which occurs due to the temporarily ...
Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a disease of the pulmonary vascular bed that is characterized by elevations in the mean pulmonary artery pressure in the setting of perfusion defects on ventilation-perfusion scan, and subsequently confirmed by pulmonary angiography. CTEPH, or World Health Organization (WHO) group 4 pulmonary hypertension, is a result of unresolved thromb...
Aims Although balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) improves haemodynamics and short-term prognosis in patients with inoperable chronic thrombo-embolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), the long-term effects of BPA, and procedure-related complications remain to be fully elucidated. Methods and results From July 2009 to October 2016, we performed a total of 424 BPA sessions in 84 consecutive patie...

A 65-year-old woman was admitted for acute onset of right lower abdominal pain. She was taking anticoagulant medication regularly for rheumatic valvular disease and atrial fibrillation. Physical examination revealed no obvious abdominal or flank tenderness. Right thrombo-embolic renal infarction was diagnosed after performing computed tomography angiography (CTA).
