Prostatic intra-epithelial neoplasia (PIN) is considered a precursor of invasive carcinoma, characterized by proliferation and anaplasia of cells lining prostatic ducts and acini. In this study, we applied the PIN grading system on one-hundred cases of prostatic carcinoma and one-hundred cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia, then compared the results. 74% of prostatic carcinoma and 51 % of...

We have established a transgenic rat for adenocarcinoma of the prostate (TRAP) model that features uniform adenocarcinoma development in prostatic lobes at high incidence within a short experimental period. However, no invasive carcinomas with reactive stroma characteristics similar to those in man were observed. We therefore have focused on a new model for invasive carcinoma of the prostate us...

Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies in men. Epidemiological and experimental studies have revealed that stromal cells of the tumour microenvironment contribute to the development of prostate cancers, while long-chain n-3 PUFA-enriched diets reduce the risk of this tumour histotype. These findings prompted us to investigate whether DHA, an n-3 PUFA, may abrogate differentiatio...

A 73-year-old man with history of prostatic adenocarcinoma radical prostatectomy underwent 99mTc-MDP whole-body bone scan and subsequent 68Ga-labeled prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) ligand PET/CT for restaging due to a gradual rise of prostate-specific antigen levels. Whole-body bone scan showed two focal zones of slightly increased uptake in the right fronto-par...

We report a case of a patient who presented with an extremely high serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) level and underwent radical prostatectomy for presumed prostate cancer. Surprisingly, the whole mount prostatectomy specimen showed only small volume, organ-confined prostate adenocarcinoma and a large, benign intraprostatic cyst, which was thought to be responsible for the PSA elevation.
