Partially hydrolyzed extracts from blood meal, feather meal, and meat and bone meal, as well as a variety of common surplus agricultural proteins were tested for their ability to promote the flocculation of clay. Partial alkaline or enzymatic hydrolyses of blood meal, feather meal, and meat and bone meal were performed to liberate proteins and peptides from their water-insoluble forms. Some of ...

OBJECTIVES To determine the prevalence and types of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli occurring in pigs at slaughter in the UK in 2013. METHODS Caecal samples from 637 pigs, sampled via a UK-wide monitoring programme in 2013, were enriched overnight in buffered peptone water, before plating to CHROMagar CTX and Oxoid Brilliance ESBL agar. Presumptive ESBL-produci...

The performance of the Pedi-BacT system, the BacT/Alert (Organon Teknika Corp., Durham, N.C.) pediatric blood culture bottle, was compared with that of a conventional 20-ml supplemented peptone broth tube (Becton-Dickinson Corp., Cockeysville, Md.) (BD system) in matched aerobic cultures. The tubes of the BD system were visually examined daily for 7 days and were subcultured during the first 24...

The pine wilt nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, has been cultured axenically in vitro on soy peptone/yeast extract or modified Caenorhabditis medium supplemented with cholesterol and hemoglobin. Although growth, development and reproduction were best in soy peptone/yeast extract medium, satisfactory population size increases were observed in the chemically defined Caenorhaditis medium.

Although several workers have observed that the bacteriostatic effect of salicylate can be reversed by pantothenate, there is disagreement about the reaction step affected. Salicylate has been considered to inhibit synthesis of pantoate (Ivanovics, 1942), the conversion of pantoate to pantothenate (Roblin, 1949), and the utilization of pantothenate (Mcllwain, 1943; Work and Work, 1948); Ackeima...

L-Asparagine is responsible for a major portion of the effect of peptone on the growth of L5178Y lymphoblasts in culture and is essential for the reproduction of these cells. Among the compounds tested, the requirement for the amide is replaced only by certain peptide derivatives of asparagine, and these are less active on a molar basis than is L-asparagine; L-aspartic acid, D-asparagine, and L...

The effect of a variety of nutrient bases on the production of bacteriocines by 10 standard Cradock-Watson types of Proteus mirabilis has been investigated. Differences in yield of greater than 10,000 fold were observed. Maximum yields were obtained with proteose peptone no. 3 (Difco) and a medium containing this with oxgall (Difco) as an antiswarming agent was developed for routine typing.

abstract previous researches have shown success of growth hormones usage on flower production increase, pod and prevention of abscission of them in some of the pulses. two tests were done, in order to find out the effects of growth hormones to on flower production increase, pod and chick pea yield composites in farmer conditions (2010-11) and green house conditions as factorial on the proje...
