Spatial heterodyne spectrometers (SHS) can achieve high resolution with excellent optical throughput. We demonstrate a planar waveguide SHS incorporating 64 asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometers and show measurements that verify 1 GHz resolution across a 64 GHz measurement range.

We report the experimental observation of the elliptically polarized fundamental vector soliton of isotropic Kerr media and its unique polarization evolution. This was achieved in the spatial domain in a nonbirefringent CS2 planar waveguide.

We demonstrate the first Tm-doped yttria planar waveguide laser to our knowledge, grown by pulsed laser deposition. A maximum output power of 35 mW at 1.95 μm with 9% slope efficiency was achieved from a 12 μm-thick film grown on a Y(3)Al(5)O(12) substrate.
